BillAllen
Anybody out there with a wiring schematic that clearly shows how the tach is wired in on a 73 Dime? I was debugging a problem with my Dime continuing to run in the accessory key switch position. We got too far in when we realized that we didn't label where the two wires for the tach were attached. We got the Accessory and On issue solved with the switch but now I have the two tach wires left over and unattached. One lead has a male spade lug fitting and the other has a female lug fitting. Any help is appreciated. Learned a lesson on this disassembly!!! Bill Allen 310-488-6900 bajaskylane@charter.net Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
White needle or orange needle? All white needle and all orange needle tachs through '72 have an inductive pick up to detect the signal. These inductive type have two White wires connected in series to the negative side the coil, a Green wire to ground and a Black wire to +12 volts. (if not working reverse the two White wires) The orange needle '73 tach only has a single Green/Black stripe wire connected to the coil, Green to ground and Black to +12 volts. Hope this helps. BillAllen
You're goddamn right! Thank you. I'm headed over to the toy house now. I'll let you know It's an orange needle. Although this is listed as a 73, there is a two wire harness that comes from the engine compartment directly to the tach. The connectors are a male and female so as to indicate that one could hook it up in series to the negative side of the coil. Bill P.S. Just went to the JCCS at the Queen Mary yesterday. LOTS of Datsuns there. Saw my buddy John Morton signing autographs on shirts, books, and posters. I also saw a model of Datsun I never knew existed and plenty of them to boot. A model called a Skyline. Pristine coupes they were. Quote Link to comment
dgi
From your description of your "left-over" wires, I believe you have an inductive style tach. Here is my write up on wiring inductive style tachs. http://elfecc.no-ip.info/510/Tachometer/Simplified_Tach_Hookup.htm Quote Link to comment
