mhub91
Decided I really didn't like the fender mirrors I ordered. They are really cheap and low quality. I really didn't like the holes in them either, seemed kinda ricey. I came up with a good idea to make them how i wanted them...... originally they looked like this... but i got some of this..... and did some of this and then filled these with that so it looked like this and made it look like this from that and now those and that are these.... 5 Quote Link to comment

mhub91
Projects come and go. ...and come .......and go. But here we are in 2016 and still have the ol' truck. A lot of shit has broken since i got it in 2014. Already replaced the tired L20 -- with another tired L20. on my 4th KA now, and it still hasn't been swapped lol. traded 2 KAs to the ol' nannerhamuck for some stuff and traded here and traded there and got some random stuff and things. slowly been acquiring parts to build it the way i want.. as of right now Ive saved enough to have a KA24DE from a 1999 Frontier. I chose the frontier engine sue to ease of carburetting. saying that, I also have a set of Weber 45 DCOE. picked up some BMW ellipsoids recently, too. currently saving to buy a reliable daily so i can park the truck in the garage and get a few things done. plenty of junk acquired, but here it sits now. 2 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
I like this truck a lot and want to do something similar. 3 Quote Link to comment
Mysta2
Nice truck! Yours was one of the ones that kept popping up of google image searches and is definiately one that heavily influenced my purchase today of a '79. I love the tan color, mine's a bit browner than that. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Thanks a lot! I love this truck. I recently purchased an '83 Celica GT so I can finally retire the truck as a daily and really begin the build Recently, I built a roof rack. I salvaged gutter style clamps from some old man's van and cut to size for the truck. Cut some slats of teak wood and assembled. Pics soon... Not near the computer. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Rough layout of roof rack. nothings secured yet. Note the "keg". Got a windshield washer fluid drum from work. Started life looking like this: After a nights long abuse with paint stripper, rope, a Home Depot spigot, and my welder it looks like this 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Pics with roof rack Finally got the fender mirrors on, too. drove out to 5 mile. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Went home to install my BMW 525i Ellipsoids................... only to discover...................................................... that battery tray tho........ 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Will be cutting out the battery tray and repair with a patch. I think I will place the battery in a suitable box in the bed. It doesn't look like the Ellipsoid light setup will allow the battery to sit in it's proper location. 1 Quote Link to comment
got ban
Loving the roof rack and planning on making one my self to match the one on my Volkswagen, yours is pretty close to what I have in mind minus the size and sides I would like on mine, but thanks for the imagery to study off of. 1 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
The elipsoids will for sure make you move the battery, they are way too long. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
If I don't move it battery to the bed, I think I will use a Toyota Prius / Highlander Hybrid 12V battery. High CCA and very compact design -- plus I can just re-use a core from work. Win/ Win. I plan on taking home a core Hybrid 12V battery.... Dimensions are 5" x 9" x 8" so it is relatively small. I'm thinking it might fit. Who knows. 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
See also, miata battery, and etx30 battery from oreillys. It's a Harley and Kawasaki cruiser battery, small with decent cranking amps. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Awesome, thanks for the tip. Tonight I cut out all the cancer and brought home some scrap sheet metal from the body shop next to my work. I'm not sure if I want to patch the hole with sheet metal, or if I want to use old license plates for additional sex apeal..... 2 Quote Link to comment

mhub91
You can all hate me, but I think I'll be stripping some paint from key areas with a DA or wire wheel. I'd like to create a maximum rat appearance. I am also coming up with ideas for a logo for the door I use the term loosely... More of a graphic. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Damn that is ghe er um Ratsun! LOL Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Clear coat will do the trick! Clear coat is not a sealer and will actually trap moisture. It may not rust as fast as bare metal, but it will rust. Just trying to keep this one from rotting away. :) 2 Quote Link to comment
