OK I will be Mr, Nice guy on this one before the Search first guys hit you up and lay into ya....

direct bolt ins to by knowledge are

96 and up Rodeo seats, sit higher than stock.

Neon seats sit higher than the rodeo seats

300z seats ( might have to modify one back mount )  same would go for 240sx seats

Civic and integra seats. think you have to modify rear mounts.

There are a few more also... SO USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION......lol

seats in 720 typed into the search showed up 80- 90 posts. Some might be double pages and some might go off topic but the thing is it took less than 5 seconds to get an hour of reading info and that's without trying seat swapping in 720 , compatible 720 seats, what seats fit the 720, bucket seats in 720 Try mixing it up for more options.

I looked up what a forum is, no where in there did it say that a forum was somewhere one went to use the search function, it's a discussion forum, that is where people talk about things like what seats will bolt into a 720, NOT there is a search function on here, why don't you use it.

This attacking newbies is getting old, real old, I wonder how many of these folks ever come back after getting such a warm welcome.

I searched this subject on google, and it lead to other Datsun sites talking about the same subject, and I am not talking about a site that I actually am a member of either.

If you have not noticed, we used to have 70+ members on here all the time, ALL THE TIME!!!, not any more, it's a rare occurrence now, in my opinion, if one of us knows the answer to a newbies question, maybe we could just answer the question by discussing it instead of................................... :(

The answers may have been short and to the point but certainly were not hostile. The op can read all he chooses and go down any alley of thought he likes, not just someone else's opinion of what to do, and if there are questions, ask intelligent knowledgeable questions. Maybe the reason there are fewer people here (your words) is that there is less flaming and bull shit to entertain them now and no more classifieds trolling.

Directing someone to the search engine is a valid response. Demonstrating the use for getting an answer and how easy it is, is another. How this is done could be done in a manner that could be taken as flaming but not the case here.

What is your response but flaming? Flaming about flaming? I'll expect you to comment every time a noob makes a first post but gets hazed for not posting a picture. That would be flaming. Provoking an arguement about grammar or spelling same thing. Directing someone to the search engine? and demonstarting it's use... I think not. Read the second and third posts again.

I like the stock 720 buckets. I don't know why everyone swaps them out but I like 'em and have been looking for a pair for a while.

 

They fit, their stock buckets, and I think they look better than rodeos.

The reason everyone is looking for an exchange, at least in my not humble opinion, is that the search for decent ones takes forever…and longer as they age.  I like the fit of my 720 seats, but they are plain and simple…SHOT.  Re-springing and re-welding them would be not worth it, not to mention the cost, and I have the tools to sew new fabric of any sort for the outside.

 

That being said, I agree with the niceness thing. I am not known to be "nice' but I have been working on it.  I love this forum because when I asked questions, that seemed silly, even to me, as I could search them too, I got answers.  Not only that, but answers and more information that saved my behind more than once…some I should have listened to in the first place.  Stick with the nice.  Not all of us run across the search function first thirty times in here.

 

Back to seats!

 

In addition to the suggestions I have seen, I have also heard that early '80's Camaro seats fit with minor refab, but I do not know of anyone who has done it.  Ultimately, if you can find seats that fit you, and can drill some holes through some body (maybe some frame too) parts, seats are going to be a handful of bolts into the vehicle.  Many should "fit" and not be much work to make it so.  Things you need to worry about are reasonable attach points and such.

 

Really, I hear lots of folks going Neon, so I would go that way…especially since they made a zillion of those things, and they are all over the yards.

 

Welcome to Ratsun.  These folks are way better than their bickering makes them seem.  Please come back with photos… I am interested in your engine rebuild, if you have pics of that...

awhile back in my eagerness to learn, ask for advice and discuss ideas, i posted a bunch of threads.  it did not go well with a senior member...  in a post i made he replied in bold...  "jesus christ,  does every thought in your head need to be a new thread?"  i think i almost gave him a heart attack. 

 

so the advice is:  post all your questions in your build thread otherwise you will be flamed.  your silence, DATZENMIKE, in that thread validates my advice. 

 

now tell me again where i insinuated what you or anyone posted was a flame? 

 

i appreciate all the help i got from this forum.  i tried to give help as much as i got and i only regret i could not help more as this is all new to me.  i do not have time for this middle school drama bullshit.  adios.  :fu:

The Seat Issue

We all face ‘the seat issue” at some point. And man, I have seen some- sat on some- totally shot seats in my day. See, back then, I collected 1949 Plymouths. Wagons, especially. How do you think their seats look by now? I remember one front seat, we stuffed about a dozen blankets into it, reserving the last two or three for top cover. I am sure you all can tell similar stories.

 

I am surprised that the general direction of this thread is to find replacement wrecking yard seats. From my Plymouth days, I am conditioned to think that, in most cases, the seat needs to be rebuilt, not replaced. I mean, seats rarely break, instead they wear out. Back in those Ellensburg days, I knew a guy who knew a lot of seat re-building tricks- how to fix rails, where and how to place and replace springs, how to shave foam. It was not rocket science. He fetched back some wicked bad seats.

 

Today, in Olympia, I live across a fence from one of the best upholstery guys ever. Bill is ’retired’ now but he gets calls all the time still. He is a legend. I can hear him working out on his patio when the weather is nice. Bill would think it ridiculous to put Rodeo seats in your Nissan truck simply because the upholstery is shot and he just might explain to you how that reflects on our word situation today, if he thinks you are worth the investment of his time and energy. Bill is awesome! Bill rules!

 

And though I am not an upholsterer myself, I am inclined to agree with him. Maybe you can get some rain soaked seats out of a stinky wreck that will work semi-okay and cost only 50 bucks. But spending 300 to get the originals reconditioned seems like a far better value to me. At the end of the day, I will know that my ass isn’t sitting in someone else’s brain matter. I derive a modicum of comfort in that thought.

 

My seats aren’t erupting yet, but the creases are there. The original upholstery looks very dated anyway. And the springs underneath just aren’t right. When I drive, my ass wants to lean left a little. This will bug me over time. So when my seats finally croak, I am thinking I will lean over the fence and see if Bill will re-do them in leather for me. Stock 720 bucket seats in natural split hide leather? Very, very nice. Especially compared to the alternatives...

720inOlyWa, while your logic is sound and I agree with you, you've missed one part of the equation involving Ratsun.

 

 

Fixing an issue with $100 or less and doing it with minimum labor, and with as little loss to time spent enjoying inebriation = Ratsun

 

Fixing an issue with $100 or more and having it involve real work, requiring real time to be spent on the project without inebriation = Non-Ratsun thinking

 

 

 

Oh, and datzenmike, don't worry, we still love you even if you cause the spread of burthurtedness...

My actual on topic addition to this thread, I went with the Camry seats I did due to the lack of buckets in my Kingcab. I had to find a set of original buckets to steal the rails from and the seats were beyond repair, but the rails were still good.  Then again anything would have been better than the oddball, red velour in a blue interior, tripod mounted and rocking, GM bench seat that was in it when I got it, lol

I re-built and re-upolstered mine all with tools and leftover fabric from work. Took a while but was an enjoyable learning experience.

Holy cow- I had no idea of this. Did I miss the ‘Read before Posting’ or mission statement, etc.

 

I like this idea very much, but is there room for a middle ground? Say, somewhere where I can retain my Ratusun cool and still end up with really nice re-done seats upholstered by a true master, while I watch and smoke? Does that work at all? By the way, and speaking of living in Washington state, all the best to my Ratsun brothers and sisters who are watching the long range weather forecast with keen interest. May your dry days prevail.

 

I talked to old Bill about it this morning, over the fence, and so he stopped by while walking the dog. He poked and prodded and gave a little laugh. “Oh yeah, I can make those real nice for you.” Hell, man- I am so in! I will have to scrimp and save though.

 

And to be perfectly clear... I am totally in sync with you in terms of scrounging out a solution with force of will rather than squirting dollars. I have little choice myself as I am downright poverty stricken. The brightest friend I have ever had once told me-in the 7th grade, on a ski lift- that he figured out that “You can have 90% of the fun for 10% of the cost.” So true. Same goes with fabricating a cool ass repair with pop rivets and an old stop sign. Sometimes, you can actually get 125% of the fun for 5% of the cost. That’s when it is time to start counting blessings.

 

I just didn’ realize that was the deal here. So thanks for the hip up. From now on, I will just sit on my corinthian leather rather than crow about it.

What i was and i think Arizona-jones is saying is everybody is welcome here not just those with fat wallets (which i enjoy reading their threads),, and not just us fly to Hawaii by hiding in the wheel well type guys....  Kinda what Wayno was trying to say,, we're all in this together and we should all try to help each other out whenever possible.

 

Look up any of Bigtankers builds he throws fistfulls of cash around and i love it. But by the same token i dig very much Levigideon and his brothers escapades just as much.
