metalmonkey47
Both should be M8x1.25 make sure ya get lock washers and snug em down tight. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The bracket is the thing on the block that the alternator bolts to. The two bolts on the alternator are just the alternator mounting bolts. I would set the belt tension first with the adjusting bar and bolt, then tighten the two alternator mount bolts. Did you take the bracket off the engine to see if the bolts had come out? Sometimes they don't come out, they break off, so you need to look to see if there is a hole to put a bolt into in the first place. The alt, bolts holding the alt. to the alt. bracket have a 12mm head normally, the 3 bolts holding the bracket to the engine are much larger. Quote Link to comment
Scgreen620
The bracket does have the bigger bolts Yes I did try to put bolts in and the do go in the whole I might just need nuts... Quote Link to comment
wayno
If the bracket looks like the one in the photo below, then the bolts are larger than the 12mm I mentioned. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
Mine sheared bolts twice. I took off the bracket and drilled straight through the barrel. Then I got a pretty fat bolt, maybe M12? And through bolted it. It's held up since then. Two years or so of daily. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Here's another style at top. Also the Z series bracket bolts to the block have the same thread size as the L series blocks but the hex head and shoulder is larger Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
The right is just a screw in bolt. The left I forget... probably nut and bolt. This alt. bracket is from the earlier 62) I think. Quote Link to comment
