71DIMER
So I've always been a Datsun guy since getting my first 510 at age 15...since then I've owned at least 5 Dimes and a few other old school Toyotas/Fiats/etc but this has been my first foray into OTD (other than Dimes) for Datsuns. I ran across this 1971 Datsun 1200 on my local CL about a month ago and after texting the owner and discussing price, he just said to come take a look at it and we could work something out...so I drove the 5 minutes from my work and after looking it over for 30 minutes, low and behold I got it for much less than his asking price and even less than what I went over there thinking I'd offer :) It's not my ideal color nor is it perfect by far but it has potential as a good base/start and with a few minor tweaks, I think I can make it nicer. Ok enough typing, onto what I know you all like..PICTURES right! Below is what it is in all it's glory! Pretty plain Jane, down to the stock 12" wheels :) Below you can see it even has the original Palo Alto dealer plate frame! Below you can see that besides being a little dirty, it's not in too bad of condition! Look..no rust!!! :) BIG 12" tires! LOL Engine bay compartment where the monster A12 sits quietly :P Interior shots: Not really feeling the non stock seats but what can I do :P 4 Quote Link to comment

71DIMER
I liked yours since the first time I saw it at the SJ Swap Meet! That gave me the extra nudge to go look at the one I ended up picking up! :) So I wasn't please with the ashy looking grey grille...so I decided to give it a little life back. :P This is what it looks like now :) I even gave the center emblem some color :P 1 Quote Link to comment
KELMO
What type of paint did you use on the emblem? I used testors model paint and got close but no quite. Good lookin' coupe. Quote Link to comment
Greased monkey
Looking real good! Quote Link to comment
71DIMER
What type of paint did you use on the emblem? I used testors model paint and got close but no quite. Good lookin' coupe. Sadly I used cheap generic spray paint that I already had laying around. It's not the exact colors but they were close enough and again free since I already had them. I didn't spray it, rather I sprayed the paint into the can's cap itself then used a small paint brush. After it was dry, I clear coated the whole thing. Not ideal but hey, looks ok I think. Looking real good! Thanks GM! Quote Link to comment
71DIMER
So I was looking for a set of wheels but I ended up finding these right in my carport storage I forgot I had :P 1 Quote Link to comment

71DIMER
Thanks! :) Very well done, look great! Here's the Before picture with the tiny 12" stock wheels/tires: Here's the AFTER pictures with the HUGE 13"s sitting on 175/60R13 tires to be certain it will cause no rubbing issues with the stock fenders. :) 3 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
I have to ask, was it lowered? It looks a good bit lower than all the stockers I've seen... Oh, and you really need one of these. Yours looks almost as bad as mine did... ^_^ http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-1200-B110-A12-A14-A15-CA18-chassis-plate-ID-tag-blank-/281435719698?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4186e04812&_uhb=1 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah my plate it haggard but it's original and shows the matching engine number on it, so I'll leave it beat up :P Quote Link to comment
KELMO
What he said about the lowering. I had 5" between tire and wheel opening on the 1/4 with 12" tires. Those wheels are awesome. Edit: Just saw your post .....I put 2" lowering blocks on mine in the back and yours still looks lower...now 3" between tire and wheel opening. Quote Link to comment

And here I thought it wasn't low enough...lol...but to be honest I'm ok with where it's at right now. I don't plan to make this more than what it already is, a nice ride to enjoy every now and then. It's hard to drive 8 cars at once so it won't be doing daily duty anyhow. Thanks for the compliment on the wheels :) Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
And here I thought it wasn't low enough...lol... Because it's not. Quote Link to comment
71DIMER
Because it's not. :devil:It's low enough for me :)Unless I score the parts needed to make it moar low ;P Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
And for reference, I'm betting yours is down at least 2", if not more. Y And I was just kidding. Yours is plenty low for a street car. Mine is lowered to an almost nonsensical level. Quote Link to comment
71DIMER
I didn't like the sad state of my licenses plates and my license plate frame so... Here it is before: Completely stripped: Primered: Rear Before/After: Front Before/After: Good view of the Before/After of the Front grille, emblem, and plate: 4 Quote Link to comment
