'Friday The 13th' of 158 Squadron RAF was the highest mission Halifax of the war. Legend has it that it came to be named thus after the crew chief asked the then Captain what he should name the new aircraft. "Call it what you like, I'm not superstitious" was the Captain's reply. After the war the aircraft was displayed for a time on a bomb site in London's Oxford Street, after which it was promply scrapped.

Well, you can't really compare 909 to the Belle just simply because it was at tow totally different stages of the war. Dangerous in both situations, but much more survivable by the time 909 came into play.

The American all time leader is B-26 Marauder "Flak Bait" with 207 missions

Comparing the 909 to the "Belle" is more accurate than comparing any heavy Bomber to a Marauder, Mitchell ,A-20 or anything else in the category. And the Memphis Belle wasn't even the first Bomber to complete 20 missions anyways.

I didn't compare the Marauder to a heavy bomber, I am just pointing out that is has the most missions under its belt.

Actually, a B-24 Bomber was the first to complete 25 missions before the B-17 Hell's Angels did. Memphis Belle was the first to 25 without loss of life
