that-son
before i flushed out the water/ ferric oxide blend it would go up to about 2/3rds. i put a 50/50 blend of coolant and distilled water and it still goes past the normal line. what gives? Quote Link to comment
bonvo
looks to be right about where it should be if anything its a little bit cool 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The normal range is between those two thin lines although I prefer it to be closer to the bottom one than the top. My 620 and 710 gauges run exactly where yours is about 1/3 of the way up into the 'run' or 'normal' range and almost always below the half way point. When 'spirited' driving in the summer my gauge will get near the half way point. If it was to go over there's no danger as it is still in the normal range, but I would begin looking for a reason. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
My engines run right in the middle, it's when they are not in the middle that I start noticing/keeping my eyes on it, sometimes it will be slightly higher, but that is usually on a hot day just after driving up hill on the freeway and then I exit and hit a signal, when stopped and idling, it just don't cool down as fast. I am curious, what is the "normal line" to you? 1 Quote Link to comment
that-son
after i flushed out all the rusty water, this is now my new normal. when we had temps over 100 it would get closer to half at stop lights but would go down to where it is once i start going again. Quote Link to comment
wayno
OK, then it likely has a lower thermostat than I have, but the way I look at it is this, I use the 720 wiring harness on most my builds, so I connect everything up and get it running, I know it has a good thermostat, good radiator, and it is not leaking, so where ever the needle evens out on whatever gauge I am using(likely a 521 gauge), that will be normal for me. I personally don't like it when a gauge needle doesn't seek the middle when running on the hiway, I like everything in the middle when driving down the road, well except the fuel gauge, I wish it would stay full all the time, but that is a pipe dream. after i flushed out all the rusty water, this is now my new normal. when we had temps over 100 it would get closer to half at stop lights but would go down to where it is once i start going again. 1 Quote Link to comment
bryant2482
since i did a water pump and rad. change out ive had no issues with the needle going past the middle. in fact it usually takes a good while to get to normal operating temp. a good 10 to 15 minutes, especially driving in the early morning Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's odd because my L20B hits the run range in a kilometer, (that's about 5-6 blocks) and normal (1/3 into range) in about two this summer. It's reading after the first block coming home. Quote Link to comment
bryant2482
whats the outside temp like in summer in vancouver? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Where I am July and August average is 23C or 73.4. Can get higher but not for long. Has hit 30- 33 (86-91) this summer during the day Quote Link to comment
that-son
so after i flushed out my radiator (took the whole day) i started getting tiny leaks from the heater core and the water pump (i think). it was tiny enough that i just kept topping it off for a few days until... it stopped. no more leaks. i guess the holes got plugged again by all the rust from the radiator? bryant2482
yep that happened to me when i changed my pump and rad. its gonna be a bitch putting in a new heater core Quote Link to comment
