starting issues

so the battery, alternator and starter are good.  but some days everything lights up, i hear the fuel pump ticking but nothing turns.  somebody suggested i rock it back and forth while in gear cause it might be a bad flywheel but doesn't seem to help.  it'll start eventually whether i rock it or not.  then my neighbor suggested i clean out all the ground connections and the issue stopped.  never happened for almost a month until... now it's doing it again.  i found dlarson's page but i don't seem to have that darned fuel pump relay.

here are some images of where i think the relay should be-above the passenger kick panel.

Starter relay. Likely the wire connection to the starter is shit . Clean it, apply no-ox , bolt it down. If still not starting test the starter by bypassing the ignition switch. This will get the starter moving, unless it's bad. If bad, replace.

Are you sure your battery is good? turn on your headlights and try to start. Do they dim alot?

If you have a load tester use it. A lot of times the battery may seem good but a dead cell will fool some of the

newer battery testers. Old school testing is the best way.

And wont turn? Engine cranking or fuel pump? Disconnect a line and turn the key and find out if your gettn fuel lol.

Get a jump from someone. It sounds like the battery to me.

thanks for all the help.

nothing turns mike.  as in it (that picture of the relay) just clicks and the starter does not turn.  starter is new and checks ok.  battery is good too... new, tested ok and when hooked up to a charger still does not turn.  btw, that relay used to buzz when i let go of the accelerator and i'm just cruising or engine braking.  it stopped doing it when i adjusted the timing and air/fuel ratio.

yesterday and today she will not even start at all.  before, it would just click and not turn but eventually it will start after a few tries.

i think i found the culprit.

i was told from a different post that the heater relay goes in that slot with the jumper wires.  well i removed the jumper wires yesterday and on a whim decided to put it back in today.  we are now back in business.  take it off and it doesn't start, put it back on and it starts right up again.  i did it way too many times to be just a coincidence.  what the heck is that and where can i get it!!??
