troyt
Has anyone found a reputable source for forged (4340 or equivalent) 6" (152.5mm) z20e connecting rods ? Thanks Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Are you looking for factory ones or aftermarket ones? Quote Link to comment
troyt
While the factory rods are forged, I am looking for some aftermarket h-beam high strength forged ones for a high rpm l20b race motor. All the Carillo/Pauter/etc catalogs I have come across sell several Nissan rod lengths, but not for the z20e. I have a couple sets of peened/balanced/ARPed 6" rods for 7500 rpm motors but need a set for something a little more. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Thanks for the clarification. Wish I could be more help. Quote Link to comment
scooter
You can call crower or carillo etc and get a custom set made. Im going to get some made in the future. $$ Quote Link to comment
troyt
$$$ indeed, that's why I'm hunting for something 'off the shelf'. At custom pricing, it might be cheaper to find a popular size forged rod/piston combo, but where would the fun be there... Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
A number of years back I built an L20B and bought 6" Carrillo rods, so they used to make them. As has been said, not cheap. You could try K1 Technologies. They were very helpful when I purchased CA16 rods for install in my A15 race engine and offered a custom build if I needed one. http://www.k1technologies.com Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
I know in the past people would use Chevy small block rods. The early rods, like the 327, had a small journal, but the pin size is larger. You could save some $$ if you were willing to work for it. Quote Link to comment
scooter
I thought the Chevy rod width was too narrow? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I thought the Chevy rod width was too narrow? Yeah, I don't exactly recall. I know I've seen them in L motors before, I just don't remember all the details. Quote Link to comment
scooter
Chevy rods are .940 wide and datsun ones are 1.055 wide. IF an individual was brave enough and weld the throws narrower, it could be doable. If your gonna go that far you might as well grind it down to 1.888 Honda journals. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Early chevy rod big ends are 2". L20B/Z20/Z22 and Z24 cranks are 1.96" So how does this work? Quote Link to comment
RTB
I have heard of certain honda rods being used. I cannot remember the model though. IIRC they were the same sized pin and a slightly smaller journal. Quote Link to comment
scooter
It might work if you used 40 under bearings, but it doesn't work anyway as there's too much side clearance. If you ground the crank down to a Honda rod journal or go to IRL size; 1.85, it makes for super light rods and it would be super revvy. Quote Link to comment
