A N.Y. literacy test was meant to screen teachers. Instead, it weeded out minority candidates failing it

 

New York education officials are poised to scrap a test designed to measure the reading and writing skills of people trying to become teachers, in part because an outsized percentage of black and Hispanic candidates were failing it.

 

The state Board of Regents on Monday is expected Monday to adopt a task force’s recommendation of eliminating the literacy exam, known as the Academic Literacy Skills Test.

 

Backers of the test say eliminating it could put weak teachers in classrooms. Critics of the examination said it is redundant and a poor predictor of who will succeed as a teacher.

 

“We want high standards, without a doubt. Not every given test is going to get us there,” said Leslie Soodak, a professor of education at Pace University who served on the task force that examined the state’s teacher certification tests.

 

The reformers believe tests like New York’s Academic Literacy Skills Test can serve to weed out aspiring teachers who aren’t strong students.

 

But the literacy test raised alarms from the beginning because just 46 per cent of Hispanic test takers and 41 per cent of black test takers passed it on the first try, compared with 64 per cent of white candidates.

I am sooooooo glad I am not anywhere near NYC. Affirmative action at the price of the next generation. On top of that how do you get a 4 year degree, and not be able to read and write.

$100 per emission outside of a vagina or medical receiving location. Would this go to the general fund? Or is that money earmarked for a specific fund?

Who else will benefit from the arrangement? Certainly Lennar Corporation will. They are a partner with Platinum’s Treasure Island Community Developers. Lennar has experience developing former military bases, and is one of the country’s largest residential housing builders.
By what could solicitously be called a coincidence, Laurence Pelosi was president of acquisitions for Lennar. He is Nancy Pelosi’s nephew, and currently works as executive director of Morgan Stanley’s real estate division…

 

This is just one of many scams this political predatory family uses to syphon off the 6th largest economy on the planet. Before condemning liberals though consider, the Bay Area is extremely liberal and grotesquely wealthy, so corruption here is always liberal. There is an ocean of local corruption on both sides of the isle throughout the country and all of it flows back through Washington. In the same vein there's Texas, Florida and the Bush family, and everybody's favorite Arkansas and the Clintons. Truth is, these guys are small fry compared to the robber barons of the industrial revolution. Rothschild, Rockefeller, and Morgan; those families are still syphoning off the top. After the 2016 election, can't tell me we aren't living in an oligarchy, and now the used car salesman of the oligarchs is in office.
