Why can't you guys just admit that those guns ARE assault style weapons ?

Semantics is his way of deflecting the issue. Makes him feel right and in his mind shows the speaker is wrong about everything they say.

Assault: a physical attack

Weapon: a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage

Yet, if you put those two words together and it doesn't necessitate select-fire capabilities, you better go back to grade school. Fuck, I'm surprised they can even form sounds with their lack of basic understanding...

/\...so what does this tell u about having armed staff at school. Another thing is will they be armed w a pea shooter vs an a semi auto assault rifle?

Not really, what I heard is these officers were county police so depending on issued locally plus training he/she would be superior shooter with a higher caliber wep.

So, by that definition, all rifles are assault rifles. Nice try, junior.

The monicker “assault rifle” was coined by the mainstream media to encompass all black scary looking rifles. Just because you can put attachments on picatinny rails doesn’t make it any more powerful than any other semi-auto rifle that accepts a magazine. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still just a pig.

The fact that people in here still refer to it as an assault rifle just shows that they have no basic understanding of firearms. Nothing worse than someone arguing about something they know nothing about.

Ex-fucking-actly!

It would be like if I said I’m now calling trucks urban assault vehicles because they both have wheels, and anyone that points out the difference is just deflecting and they’re wrong because I said so.

What a tool

Justin Trudeau is ridiculed by Indians for his 'fake, tacky and annoying' wardrobe of traditional outfits - and finally dons a suit after criticism
  • Justin Trudeau is taking part in an eight-day visit to India with his family
  • For three days, the Canadian Prime Minister was pictured in traditional outfits
  • While the clothing drew praise early on, the tide of opinion soon turned on him
  • Perhaps sensing the mood change, Trudeau donned a suit on Thursday

it's dis-crediting a whole speaker based on their use of a term that has no less that three definitions that are widely accepted. a person is not stupid because they use different terminology. I personally don't disagree with your definition, but I'm able see past that and hear their argument. This is the difference. I'll listen to a friend tell me about how much they love my Datsun and the sound of the motor, though we know the engine is what makes the sound they love. I won't stop listening and consider them unworthy of an opinion

Ex-fucking-actly what we don't need, a bunch of unless trivia masquerading as wisdom.

assault rifle

NOUN

A lightweight rifle developed from the sub-machine gun, which may be set to fire automatically or semi-automatically.

That’s copy and pasted straight from oxford, the most respected dictionary there is.

Assault rifle - Wikipedia

An assault rifle is a selective-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. Assault rifles were first used during World War II.

Hell, even the dipshits at wiki have it right.

The term "assault rifle" was started by Adolph Hitler,so don't pin it solely on the media. The phrase has been around a long time. No,not all rifles are assault rifles. You know that.

The false term is used for the sole purpose of fear mongering. It’s a non starter to try to begin a debate or conversation with a blatant lie. No pro 2A individual is even going to listen to the first sentence after hearing assault rifle when it’s a sporting carbine. If there’s to be any legitimate conversation, both sides need to be honest and speak without rhetoric.

Edit: picture this...a guy shows up at a Datsun meet that you’re at. He proceeds to talk about his “all original numbers matching car” with “original libres on it”. You look at the car, it has appliance mesh knock offs and a rotary swap. You now know dude has no damn clue what he’s talking about. Are you going to be willing to converse about the future of Datsun culture with him? My guess is an emphatic hell no. That’s how anti 2A with their lack of knowledge comes off.

Deputy assigned to Florida school 'never went in' during shooting, sheriff says

The school resource deputy who was on patrol at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14 resigned Thursday after video surveillance showed he never entered the school, even though he "clearly" knew there was a shooting taking place, officials said.

Deputy Scot Peterson, of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, was stationed on the school’s campus when Nikolas Cruz opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, leaving 17 people dead and others wounded.

Sheriff Scott Israel during a press conference Thursday said video showed Peterson arriving at the west side of the building where the shooting took place. Peterson, Israel said, took up a position but "never went in."

Peterson, according to the sheriff, "was absolutely on campus through this entire event." The deputy was armed and in uniform during the shooting, but never entered the building despite "clearly" knowing a shooting was happening, Israel said.

The sheriff said he believes Peterson remained outside of the building for roughly four minutes, while the shooting in total lasted around six minutes. Israel said the officer never fired his weapon.

2015 stats

Injuries via firearms: 36,252

Suicide via firearms: 22,018

Legal/Unintentional/undetermined: 1,255

--------------------------------------

Assaults from firearms (not suicide): 12,979

Now we have a solid number to work with.. 12,979 where someone killed someone else illegally.

Source: CDC

Deaths by weapon 2015 (assaults): (Yes I realize FBI and CDC have a discrepancy, hard to find all the data in one source.. ask them why they are different.)

Total firearms: 9,616
Handguns: 6,447
Rifles: 252
Shotguns: 269
Other guns: 171
Firearms, type not stated: 2,477

Source: FBI

Could not find gang related death statistics for 2015.. however as reported by the CDC in 2011 and 2012 80% of gun deaths were related to gang violence. Lets apply those figures...

Totals deaths by firearms minus gang related deaths:

Total firearms:1,923
Handguns: 1,289
Rifles: 50
Shotguns: 54
Other guns: 34
Firearms, type not stated: 495

If you want to take the CDC numbers and adjust them +26% to match the FBI individual stats..

Total firearms: 2,596
Handguns: 1,625
Rifles: 64
Shotguns: 68
Other guns: 43
Firearms, type not stated: 624

So do we want to ban these 'assault rifles' because they are murder machines... or because they look scary?

So if we used the term "sporting carbine" instead of "assault rifle" with these shootings we'd be good ?
