Andres131313
So i took the transmission out and the drive line. what type of oil do i get for the transmission? are there 2 compartments for oil in it? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
GL-4 only 80w90 is fine. There is only one fill hole, half way up the drivers side. Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
I got the bearings in today and I started assembling everything. I think I remember a gasket in one or 2 of the bearing blocks. ( block 1 and 5) are there? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The rear main bearing has two small rubber strips (curtain seals???) and there is a round rubber rear main seal that is pushed onto the end of the crank once assembled. But there are no 'gaskets' on any of the main bearing caps. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Side seals They are 2 different styles....1 and a 2 piece This is a one piece getting pounded in....both were trimmed flush after they were fully seated Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
So this is a long shot. Anyone know the length of the secondary lever return spring on a dch 340 carb or have one? It's missing and I just noticed. Tried looking it up but I couldn't find where to get one. Thanks guys. Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
Update. I have called 75 dealers from California to Alabama. Not a single one has an egr tube. I looked online and found a few companies that said they had it but then canceled my order because it was discontinued. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Wrecking yards are about the only place you will find these items. Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
So I put the carb on and hooked up some vacuum hoses to just see if it would run. By the way it did on the first try. But that was after I had to pour fuel in to keep it running. I kept it running for 30 mins till I ran out of gas in my bottle. i can see gas through the sight glass but not the ventures. I don't know why it's not working. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
I mean 30 seconds Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Andres, you can go back and change any spelling or text by selecting the EDIT button under your post rather than a supplementary post about it. Cheap is getting in the bowl but not the ventures. You might want to edit this line as well. Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
Ok. So any ideas? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
On how the cheap gets in the carb but that it's not getting into the ventures? 1 Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
Mille you know what I mean! Auto correct sucks! On how the gas is going in the bowl but not in to the intake. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Turn the auto correct off. Spelled wrong is better than the wrong word. The fuel is sucked into the carb by the in rushing air. Likely the primary jet is clogged with sediment. Time to rebuild it or at least take apart and clean it out. Check a few things. When done replace the fuel filter to prevent this. Cut the old filter open and have a look at the contents. Quote Link to comment
Rays74
+1 /\ /\ Check the jets for plugging, specially the primary side ;) Found this for you, Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
I just rebiuld the whole carb and I cleaned out all the jets Quote Link to comment
dr.feltersnatch
and... it fixed it? Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
i rebuilt the carb again, idle passages are all clear, fuel is at the right level in the bowl, and every vacuum line is attached. I tried to time the engine with my light and i got it to 13ish before tdc and the engine was as low as i could get it to go using the main jet. now the engine will only run when the clutch or not in gear. as soon as i let out the clutch she fires throught the carb and is close to dying. i have no idea why the carb is not working. any ideas? datzenmike
Plug order is 1342 in a counter clockwise direction on the distributor cap. Usually 2 and 3 are swapped. Check valve lash. Should be around 0.012" when valve closed. If these are good, turn the timing down and see if it runs better. Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
I know the firing order is right. (Never making that mistake again. Couldn't hear for a few hours) the valves I know I just did and I got the intake at .01 and the exhaust at .012. I'll see about the timing. The idel jets won't work and i can't figure it out. Will a weber carb pass smog in California? Quote Link to comment
Fat510
there's not as many pictures as i thought... :/ Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
New problem. Idle circuit works now. I also changed the advanced the distributer till it no longer backfired. The problem now is that the idle is very high. Guessing around 2,000. The throtal screw is out almost all the way. When it first starts the engine is around 600 but once I step on the gas the idle becomes higher. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
Fat510
its probably that the throttle doesn't go all the way back to starting position. if you barely tap the pedal does the idle drop back down? Quote Link to comment
Andres131313
That is the problem. I think. I'll go get a spring at ace and see if that works. Thank fat510 Quote Link to comment
