Schneider Retainers Issue *Update*

So I've found that the clearance issue I've had trying to use a stock cam with Schneider retainers is certainly because of the retainers. The size difference between the stock retainers and Schneider ones is ridiculous. I've since installed one stock retainer on the Schneider springs and found that I don't have a clearance issue using stock components. I'm waiting on the stock springs I've ordered to arrive, until then I won't be able to do much with the Z. Here are the measurements of the Schneider retainers, compared to the stock ones and their installed height(s). (pics to follow)

 

Retainer heights:

SC:      .652"

Stock:  .530"

Diff:      .122"

 

Install Heights: (measured from bottom of retainer to spring seat)

SC:      1.70"

Stock:  1.575"

Diff:        .125"

 

So with the difference in retainer/install heights, about .003" was taken off in the valve job on the head, which is about normal. I should note that the "claimed" install height for the Schneider retainers is 1.60" to 1.65" (depending on springs used), which means to get to that height you'd have to shim the hell out of the springs. The retainers are also .100" wider than stock, which moves the retainer so close to the rocker that the rockers contact them on stock cam engines! Plus the stock lash-caps sit below the retainer ring on the Schneider components, so there's no way you could use their components on stock applications. Their springs can't even be used with stock retainers, due to the springs larger OD. I know that I should've done more research before using their components, but Schneider should let buyers know that their components can only be used with ground cams, as anything with a large heel/base circle wont be able to use it. Had they mentioned this, I would've saved time when ordering components.
