510 bumpers

Hi all,

 

Bumper question:

 

I have a coupe with bumpers with black rubber overriders on them. Does anybody know if this is the same bumper as a non-overrider bumper, just with overriders, or are there two different types of bumpers? I am thinking of removing the rubber overriders and having all the holes welded up and the bumpers rechromed.

 

 

 

Is the coupe bumper the same as every other 510 bumper?

 

The rear bumper attaches to two big brackets on the rear of the car. Mine are welded into place but with bolts through them. Is this correct or should they be bolted to the body?

 

The front bumper is sitting on two straight struts and these are welded to the front of the car under the grille. Is this right, or should they be bolted in?

 

Anybody got pics of correct front and rear bumper fixings?

 

Does anybody have a licence plate light lens? Mine is cracked and has been hit by something.

All the bumper brackets on my 73 510 2 door were bolted, no welds.  But, that doesn't mean that they couldn't have welded them at another point or in other markets.

There were early bumpers with no holes from the factory. The rubber over-riders and bumpers with holes are from later in production. It's common to have the holes filled and the bumper re-chromed.

I have that same bumper and I do believe it is from factory, not a backyard chop-shop. I'd keep it original, meaning as is, and just rechrome all parts.
