This is basic, but a fuel injected engine pretty much squirts a precisely metered amount of gasoline on top of the intake valve of each cylinder, and has an O2 sensor to correct any problems.

A carburetor depends on the air speed flowing through a venturi, to suck the right amount of gasoline into the air, and hopefully not have it settle out by the time the air and fuel get to the cylinder.

If the carburetor throat, or venturi is too big, air velocity slows down.  Then it becomes harder for the carburetor to accurately meter the right amount of gasoline into the air.  Also, slow air velocities can allow gasoline to settle out of the air, screwing up the fuel air ratio even more.

so i finally got hold of a pair of weber 40 dcoe. I have someone who can cast me manifold for the twins.

Which linkage would be the best? I have a oem Nikki carb right now with cable.

Is it worth installing twin 40 dcoe on my stock l16? do i need to change anything else?

Mad Dats and datsport in Austraila have manifolds you can buy if you have a Visa card so no need to cast yourself

hahaha yeah, the Datsun is in Pakistan right now. I actually live in Austria, but since thereare no 510 there I bought this car in Paki and everytime i come to Pakistan I work on it a lil.

The webers i have, were running on a 1.8 / 16v golf engine with following specs

Carburettor jetting:

chokes 32

Main jet 138

Air jet 190

emulsion F64 - F47

Idle jet 59F21

pump jet 35

yeah sure I have paypal and visa, but for the price to get it imported here i can make 4 manifolds. The problem is not the price of the part and shipping, its the custom which f"cks u up.

The custom cast manifold will cost me around $100.-, I think its worth taking a try, if not I will buy one on my next trip to Austria.

so what do u guys say? should i run the twin 40s or a single 40?

Yeah, dual Webers (or Mikunis) aren't just an easy "bolt on" deal. They usually require more maintenance than one would expect and they can't be optimized without other modifications to the engine. A cam, some port work, bigger valves, a good header and exhaust system, distributor re-curve, etc.

If driving pleasure is what you're after, just run a DGV Weber. If you're after a good looking engine bay, then there's going to be a compromise somewhere.

Is too much? hmm, I thought this is like the normal swap?

This is a classic swap, but they are not just bolt on and go. If this were a vintage Alfa Romeo with a higher state of normal tune, bolting on duals may work fine, but the Datsun was not a highly tuned powerplant to begin with.

If you want to keep it simple, I suggest you find one of the old "How to Modify Your Nissan and Datsun OHC Engine"  book and start there. http://www.amazon.com/Modify-Your-Nissan-Datsun-Engine/dp/1931128049.
