datsun to nissan?

What year offically changed from datsun to nissan? My 82 on the fender says datsun by nissan and says nissan on the motor. My 84 on the end gate says nissan by datsun. Both are said to be 720 pickups. :blink:

There was not one final year but most everything switched to Nissan starting with 1984.

 

Some said Nissan a couple years before, some said Datsun and Nissan a year after.

The '84 Maxima 'goon said simply NISSAN on one side and DATSUN on the other on the back. Equal size chrome plasctic lettering.

the 60's vin plates say nissan. i think it was originally called the dat company and then datson with an o in it. that datsun history site tells all about it. the datsun name was dropped around 87ish. some cool vintage pics and history here.

In South Africa it changed around 1987.

The fender emblems on the 79 620 I picked up say "Datsun by Nissan"... Never seen a 620 emblem like that before.
