w_datsun_a
I have searched (maybe with the incorrect terms) but have been unable to find out if there is a difference between the automatic and manual wiring harnesses. Further - are there any major differences between model years wiring harnesses? For instance, the difference between a 77 and 79. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
I've learned that year to year they are different. Auto to manual I'm not sure but I'd say no Quote Link to comment

Auto harness can be used with manual transmission. Yes, there any major differences between model years wiring harnesses. For instance, the difference between a 77 and 79. datzenmike
For one the automatic harness will have wiring for the transmission inter lock to prevent starts in any position but PARK and NEUTRAL. If used on a standard you would need to jumper these two wires together or no power to the starter. Another: wiring for a kick down solenoid.... you could just ignore this. wiring for lights on the floor shift selector.... " 1 Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
Differences between Manual and Automatic vehicle wiring harnesses [for USA import Datsun/Nissan models] dates back to the WRL411/WPl411 or RL411/WRL411 1967 models. There are subtle differences in the wiring harnesses dating as far back as the cited 1967 model year. To modify the old saw. "Look twice then cut once", better yet, sleep on it before you reach for the Side Cutter Dikes! Besides the obvious Automatic Transmission interlock wiring and relay, often Automatic Transmission equipped vehicles included otherwise optional equipment as standard and were wired for this possibility. Hope you get running without major heart surgery on either the vehicle of yourself! After all a 37 year old vehicle may well have many "improvements" added by previous owners. 1 Quote Link to comment
