Datsun racing in Portland, July 11-13, 2014

The HMSA Portland Historics, with Datsun as the featured marque, will be July 11-13, 2014 at Portland Int'l Raceway. While most amateur vintage racing is free to attend (or maybe $5 at the gate), the HMSA Historics seem to charge about $25 for a three-day ticket (single days are cheaper) as they consider it a "spectator event". But still well worth it as the entry gets you full access to the track, pits, cars, drivers, etc. I'll be there with my 710, Steve V. will be there with the 510 Wagon, Phil M. will be there with his 240Z, Roadster, and IMSA GTP car, Troy Ermish and several of his 510 customers will be there, and I'm sure lots of SoCal and NorthWest Datsun racers will attending as well.

You Oregon Ratters should apply for a Datsun car corral. And if nothing else, the event t-shirt is bitchin'.

I might add that they are running practice laps at like 9:00 am so we always try to get there very early as the sounds of cars screaming by while touring the pits and cars are warming up for their practice is happening all day long.. Quite the sensory treat .

There are tickets available through Groupon for $15 for one day or $22 for Sat/Sun.  Rumor has it that Carolla will be there with a couple of his cars.  I will be there Thursday night and Friday.

I was at the Seattle Historics this weekend. Along with my admission I paid al little extra and was able to take three laps on the track. It was to much fun cutting the. Apex ( kind of) if Portland has the option be sure to take it. I did have to buy in advance for the track lap option. See you on the track.

I was at Seattle and didn't see anywhere that I could have a go at it myself! How and where!?

At this point, If you want to take the laps on the track you have to buy your tickets at the gate. When purchasing the ticket, tell them that you want the "hot rod corral" tickets. This will get you and your car into the corral area and onto the track.

Seems like very little interest in this event considering the amount of members here that live in the Portland / Vancouver area. This will probaly be the only time that we will see Datsun as the headlining Mark.

There should have been a Ratsun area in the corral. oh well.

Yardbirds family shopping center ,, i believe it will be predominately late models that are lowered and stretched tires like stancewars/nation  type event.. But it's really close to us and he likes that sorta thing... That is if ZTherapy has sent his SU floats by then.

I've never used a groupon at PIR before, but I've use them for other stuff. Never had trouble using them at any other venue.

You sign up for a Groupon account, pay for the thing with your credit card, they email you a printable version of the coupon that has a barcode in it, and you bring the printout with you to the event. The 8-digit code under the bar code is single-use, which is why I think they can use an email print-out as proof of purchase. Then you just have to exchange it for an actual ticket at will-call. I'm not exactly sure how the parking part works though.

Cool,, sounds like that deal between all of us could pay for the gas down there.. We will probably all pile in the 7 passenger soccer basher as we don't need someone pulling emblems off our unattended Datsuns to make a snazzy neckless.
