New center console possibility. (Now a reality) :)

Recommended Posts

Just came across a picture of a 67-69 Camaro center console that looks to be a good fit.  Even has the option of 4 gauge pod and arm rest.

To buy it all outright/new could be pricy, but you could craigslist it for some savings.

not ratsun prices, but I think its definitely a good option.

I will search for a craigslist console and report back.

And you provide no link. Great thread.

I like it. But, define pricey.

The first link is the suppliers website

The next 2 links are just what is in the first picture, which is only partially complete, listed for roughly $180.

The third link shows a complete console, with armrest cover, gauges, shifter trim, etc, listed for $808.

Not really thinking this is even close to Ratsun pricing to even be considered, seeing as how an OEM one, even in shitty condition, is likely priced similarly.

I know a lot of gm guys, so ill try and find one to test fit.

It does look long, but you don't know until you try :)

Seems like used prices with all the covers is around 100.00

add the gauge panel for 45.00 and the gauges, +/- 40.00 x4 and your at 305.00+/-

I like ratsun for what it stands for, and have a few ugly rusty shity cars that I love and beat the piss out of for fun.

I have 2 dimes.  Ones Purdy, ones a rat.  Its the best of both worlds kinda thing.

If this fits well, looks oem, adds another place for gauges, and has cup holders...Id glady drop 400.00 for it.

its a tad wide, but I will just add foam to bulk up the carpet around the center area.

the tranny I have has a short shifter, which is obviously gonna have to get removed/raised.

the bottom of the front (cant been seen) curves inward at the bottom, and there is +/- 5" of space between the console and the heater box.

all and all, im happy with the fit and the oem look of it.

once the ac goes in, it will fill the gap between the lower dash and console nicely.

and gm people are god damn hoarders!! they don't let anything go! Took me all this time to find this at a decent price ($200.00)

discuss.

Since you are doing interior mods, you may want to checkout my dash gauge modifications.  I have a KA and can run an A/C compressor form the '95 240SX, and installed a Vintage Air heater/ A/C evaporator.  You have more room when you throw out the old heater core, all electronic actuated, heater controls knobs easy to move, and awesome A/C.

I don't want say it's ugly because it's not but can you tighten up the gaps around the center piece more and you should look in to moving the a/c controller down and mount more gauges or something,it looks like a blank space all around it..it looks good over all though just some ideas that all.but I like were this is going..

Also is this the gps speedo, and if not you do know they make one right, no more leaking speedo cables along with cleaning up the fire wall.

now onto the gauge wiring...yay!!!!!

the shifter boot is from a stock 05'-09' 5 or 6 speed v-8 Mustang. Pops right in!!! It is a tight fit and bows a bit in the center, but a small drill and a zip tie will pull it down nicely. The front and back tabs clip right in!

Im super happy with it. Just going to raise the shift Knob an inch or so.

So, the mazda shifter is m12x1.5 and the nismo shift knob is m10x1.25

Hmmm....also had to make the shift boot sit lower as raising up the knob 1.5" maxed out the throw of the shift boot.

So I made a boot retainer and an adapter in one!

Used a m12x1.5 long lug nut and a m10x1.25 bolt and a tube to center it all.

Not my prettiest welds at all! (had to grind them down. they were pretty embarrassing!)

15974818727_73112401e5_c.jpg

Used a cap from a brake cleaner bottle and a big washer to create a crush seat for the boot to sit on.

Pic of the holes needed to be drilled to keep the center of the boot from popping up.

Autometer makes a module that interfaces with the speedo gage, module is $171 on Summit racing, or a generic for $106.  My current Speedo gage cost me $264 and can be calibrated to any size tires and gear ratio. Thanks for check to see if I was doing it right.  I have about $900 in gauges in the car.  The fuel gauge is programable to whatever sender you have, $150 at Summit.  You pay the price to get all matching gauges.

Thanks for the compliment, I think.  Ya, I'm still working on fitment and location of things.  I will post up on my build thread my final interior.

Back to the thread topic.  I really like the looks of you center console.  I like the no arm rest look and function, as datsunmike put it, it gets in the way.

Thanks for your time for sharing your efforts on making a nice console.

Don't mind the rip in the back seat. Its on the list :)

The back of the console has an ashtray and a foot light. I hooked that up to the dome light, as well as hooking up the dome light to the switch on the dashboard (map light).

Very happy!

Thanks. 2 dr.

On another note, if you didn't want the option of the extra gauges, you should be able to neatly make a 4" deep tray in their place, as it is 100% empty under them.  Or a single cup holder.  Or just leave the stock wood grain block off plate and unscrew the chevy emblem.

Found a boot/knob finisher that works perfectly with the nismo knob and mustang boot.

Just an ebay cheapie, M12x1.25 with the threads drilled out and press fitted onto the mazda shifter.

Wanted to update.
