260z Manual Transmission Conversion

I just recently picked up a 240z 4 speed manual transmission and drive shaft, but I'm obviously going to need some more parts to complete this conversion...

 

Firstly, I'm unsure if I need to change my diff because I believe I have the R180 3.545 geared differential. I'm not intending to race the car anytime soon, but I don't want to cheat myself out of better performance if I have the option.

 

Secondly, I'm having trouble finding a proper clutch pedal assembly (I think it comes as a brake and clutch assembly). I'm new to this part of Datsuns, so feel free to correct me or tell me I'm being stupid. lol

 

Lastly, I don't know if there are any bushings, pins, or anything else i'll need to accomplish this swap. I know I need to buy a clutch (obviously lol) and I plan on getting a short throw kit, but I also heard I may need to buy a new console.

 

This is probably a lot to ask in just one post, but any help at all is greatly appreciated!!!

No need to change the final gearing. It has a fuel-economy performance 3.545. Acceleration will be much faster with 4.375 gears.

 

Are you just replacing the existing 4-speed with another 4-speed? What kind of conversion is it?

Hey, so my buddy and I just completed this exact same conversion, You are on the right track for sure, We swapped out the 3.5diff with a 3.7 subaru posi. This really made the car alot more fun to drive and still had perfect rpm's for highway cruzing, (16'" wheels). You will also need the master cylinder and slave cylinder. We got a hardline ffrom another donor car but there is also a guy on here that makes nice full stainless braided softlines for similar conversions. We found a a 240z pedal box to use the parts, the clutch pedal should bolt up into your current rig, it is just missing the stuff for the clutch. The console in the car worked just fine with some slight modification around the shift lever to give it a touch more room. I can get more in depth if your are interested, just let me know :) Also I think there are subtle differences in early and late model 260's, just something to be aware of. Whatever you do, dont give up on the swap. After we finished his car, it was a whole new beast and WAY more fun!

Awesome!! You helped out quite a bit, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to continue on with the swap and I'll most likely end up keeping my differential. I'll be running 15" rims (or at least that's the plan) so I think highway RPM's should be good enough.

I can't wait for it to be manual, it will be like you said, WAY more fun haha
