front tires are balding

Recommended Posts

I changed my front brakes yesterday and noticed that my tires on both sides are already balding after 1 year from being new. My truck has no visible camber and the alignment seems good. The inside is worn a bit more then the outside. Anyone have this issue before?

Get a small magnetic torpedo level and set vertically on the rim edge with the truck parked level side to side. Eyes can be deceived. Are the tops tilted in?

Have someone drive straight ahead and direct them to turn the front wheels so the drivers side front lines up with the rear. Just look down the side walls until they are facing forward exactly. Now look at the pass side front wheel. It it noticeably turned out or in? compared to the rear one behind it?

Also, if you are running larger and wider tires than the standard, check your air pressure.  You might need a few extra PSI to get the correct tire patch on the ground.  Too little pressure and you will have excess wear on the outside tread.

doesnt matter.

Replace ball joints, or king pins.  replace any steering pieces that are worn out. Generally its camber or toe that causes the insides to go bald, ball joints/king pins are also culprits. I just went thru this...  Ball joints may not look bad, but they can be!

Once you replace those, do an alignment. replace upper and lower A-Arm bushings, too. (before alignment)
