Dime Dave
FutoFab has been working on a big brake kit for the 510 that uses the original 510 hubs and struts. We figured with 280ZX struts getting harder to find, why not put together a package that uses the stock 510 components. The kit includes 12.19” x .810” Wilwood rotors, 4 piston staggered bore calipers custom made for FutoFab by Outlaw. The kit has aluminum rotor adapters and caliper mounts done in black anodized finish. Mil spec hardware is included. Pads and steel braid DOT brake lines are also supplied as part of the kit. Hawk street/track compound brake pads will be offered as an upgrade. Check in on www.FutoFab.com for availability. Brakes fit (barely) under 15x7 +18 offset VTO wheels w/205/50-15 Dunlops. Check out the pictures below of the final R&D install. 2 Quote Link to comment

q-tip
Awesome work again dave! Any plans on a kit for the zx spindles? I hate the caliper design on them.... Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
Awesome work again dave! Any plans on a kit for the zx spindles? I hate the caliper design on them.... We looked at producing brackets for 4 piston calipers that use 300ZX 4 lug hubs & rotors on the 280ZX strut. We haven't moved forward on this because of concerns of 300ZX hub availability, now and going forward. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
What about just using the better caliper with the 280zx discs Quote Link to comment

q-tip
Just curious, what do you not like about the 280zx calipers? I've had two go to shit, if you really look at them its not a very good design. And what's wrong with better calipers? Quote Link to comment

I would think they wouldn't be any harder/easier than getting 280zx hubs. But Like Q said, what about just a kit for the ZX spindles with ZX hubs and just a better rotor/caliper Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
The 300ZX 4 lug was only used on 84-85 non-turbo models. Many more 280ZX cars were made. The one concern with the 280ZX hub is the inward position of the wheel mounting surface (WMS). It limits how thick the outer half of the caliper can be. The OE calipers are fairly thin with the piston mounted on the inboard side of the rotor. The larger WMS to rotor distance is where using 300ZX hubs is beneficial. All this said, it is worth further exploration to see if a larger rotor and 4 piston caliper package could be made to fit 280ZX struts Quote Link to comment

Well guess it's time for a 300zx 5 lug hub/rotor/300zx caliper setup for 280zx struts then :-) Love all the work you guys are doing though. Quote Link to comment
