Possible Texas Canby consolation meet

So, Texas ratsun is getting more members all of the time. I'm thinking it's time we had a get together to put some faces with screen names.

I know we'd all like to go to canby like the pnw guys, but most of us logistically can't pull it off.

I was thinking it'd be fun to have a "Can't be at Canby" meet. I scoured Google maps, but can't find a Canby Texas. So, I'm thinking Canton Texas might be a good alternative. I know there's a lot of campgrounds around there, but I'm not super familiar with the area. I'm looking for help finding an appropriate place to meet up, and opinions about getting together the weekend of Canby.

Who's in?

What part of TX is Canton in?  Sounds familiar but I cannot place it ( I know, I know ....google it right?).

What weekend is Canby? (yeah, I could google that too) It seems to me it is the first or second weekend in June, I couldn't pull it off this year but possibly next year.

While I realize I am not in Texas, it is a helluva lot closer than Canby.

Canton is just east of DFW. It's most famous s a big flea market. Kind of a garage saler Mecca.

This year, I wasn't really thinking of a meet to rival Canby, but that could be something for the future. As it's only a month away, I was thinking just a get together for all of us Canby wannabes. Kinda why I thought of CANTon. Im thinking an informal get together with as many datsuns as possible on such short notice, and I'm hoping for a campground so we can stay the night.

Well it doesn't seem like anyone is chomping at the bit to meet up in Canton.  Sooo,  I was thinking, what about Gas Monkey Bar and Grill in Dallas?  I'm thinking meet up and eat there on Saturday.  I sent them a request to see if I can set up reservations.  Who's in????

I'll join in in 2017 when I relocate to Texas...  BTW, can you get past Texas safety inspections like you can with the Cali smog inspection (with a bit of add "dough")?

Texas Safety inspection is easy as crap to pass.  Blinkers, horn, brights and dims, break lights, insurance card you get a sticker.  I get my inspection right down the road from a friend of mine, so it's "Hey, how's it going?  What you up to tonight?"  hand over insurance card,  BS for a minute.  Get my sticker.

Hopefully by 2017 we'll have some organized meets going around Texas.  I'm trying to throw together something quick for this year, but I'm already looking into some bigger stuff down the road.

Can't make it for this year but would give it some serious thought for next year.  Might even be able to talk a couple other New Mexico guys into going.

I'd say plan for Nismo fiesta. I'm gonna try to get a big turn out together for that next year. I'm really hoping I can put some small Texas meets together this year to build some solidarity among Texas ratsuners. We're so spread out that we mainly know each other by screen names. I'd like to put faces and cars in the same places at the same time. That goes for all of ratsun, not just Texas, but if we're talking major road trip, nismo fiesta is where it's at. In building towards that, I think Texas needs some smaller get togethers atleast monthly.

Have been thinking about Nismo Fiesta also.  This year it was the same weekend as the Solvang Roadster show and a couple of the guys here make the trip there every year.

I got an email back today about reservations for a Gas Monkey get together.  They said they'd done similar events in the past for car clubs and would cone off a reserved parking area if we can give them a rough estimate of the number of cars.  As of now, I'm planning to make the reservations and show up.  It'd suck if I had to ask them to put out a single cone for my 710 goon.

Next step I believe is to get a couple beers in me, bust out my Datsun Roll-a-decks, and start calling people up.  Also some PMing may be in order.  I don't think a lot of Texans check the events thread because it doesn't usually pay off much.

That's awesome.  I'm pretty far from there myself.  I'd like to get together in the Houston area too.  I just figured we could start with Dallas because there seems to be a bigger group there.  I want to start doing meets as frequently as we can get people together.  If we can establish some real friendships and community, it may get easier to find the resources we need here in the Lone Star State.  Help round some people up and let's make this into an event!

Then there's that...

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. As spread out as most of us are, I really feel like a more central location is ideal? Now while I'm fine with having it in Dallas (since it's only 30 minutes away for me), something like Waco might be better?

We used to do a lot of our TDOC meets in Waco as it was easier for Houston/Austin/DFW people to get to. And there are good places to eat, hang out, photogenic locations, etc.

Thoughts?
