"Rotsun" 1985 Datsun 720 Stance/Turbo build

Recommended Posts

The first time i set my eyes on a Datsun 720 pickup was when i was a young boy and from then on i fell absolutely in love with them and swore that one day i would own one! One day while driving down a side street i caught out of the corner of my eye a tailgate in the far back of some old mans driveway, I saw him walking to his Chevy suburban and i pulled over and stopped him before he got in to leave for work. I asked him about the truck and he said that he has owned it for about 15 years now and it had been sitting there for the last 6. I asked if he would sell it and he said he would have to think about it. We exchanged numbers and went on our ways. That night i could not sleep. All i could think about was that truck, Wasting away in that mans back yard. The next day i got a call from a number i did not recognize. I answered and to my surprise, it was the man with the Datsun!!!!! He said that he was free that afternoon and that i could come look at it if i wanted. I got in my car and drove there right away! We talked about it and looked it over. He said it had not been started in over 5 years and parked it due to having a misfire. The tires were flat. The brakes were stuck. It was dirty as hell. Moss was growing on it. But i loved it! We started talking numbers and we finally decided on $100! The catch was i had to move his VW Scirocco, Which was fine with me! I got it home, Parked it, and havent touched it since. Its been a few months and i just havent had the funds to get the build started. I have decided to sell my beloved Lexus and start building the Datsun while i do not have a license and hopefully have it done by the time i get my license back!

I have recently purchased a 1985 Datsun/Nissan 720 Kingcab. My plans are to do a budget turbo build similar to the ones the "Roadkill" Tv show did a little while back.

I am starting off with a $100 decently clean 720. It runs but has a knock. Exhaust leaks everywhere. Moss growing on it. And 6 years worth of leafs in the bed. LOL. I am sacrificing my 1993 Lexus LS400 and selling it to dump into this project. Taking a risk! But i will not need a car for the next 6 months (Losing my license) So i will be rocking my Stretched moped! ^.^

Anyways so my plans for the Rotsun Pickup is to swap a 4.3L motor out of a Chevy s10 with a 5 speed transmission. Gonna get all of that together and running first before slapping the massive 7.3L Turbo off of a Ford Powerstroke turbo diesel! Those are just the beginning things i will do with the truck for now. Stay tuned! This will take awhile to do and this will be my first "Major" build so i will be asking a lot of questions as well!

Take good care of that moped!  It may be your only mode of transport for the next 3 years if you can believe the "rebuild" postings lately.  Good luck, beat the average and do a well thought  out modification.  First get it able to be registered, then go wild hoping "they" never pull you over and look under the hood!
