stheodore10
hello all - im posing due to confusion. the diagram looks good except for one thing - not sure exactly which nipples on the gas tank get which hoses. i have a tank with two nipples on top and one on the side, plus filler neck and sender unit obviously. please help me out! thanks in advance Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I would say that... 1 is the fuel line to the pump and goes to the side of the tank. 5 might be the return line. It is a larger diameter than the fuel line. These are the only two that I can say with some assurance. Quote Link to comment
stheodore10
yes true, i forgot to mention i know the other sides of 1 and 5. 1 goes directly to the filter, and 5 is the return, but i dont know where this side goes to either one  how sure are you that it goes to the side? It is a larger diameter than the fuel line. These are the only two that I can say with some assurance. 5 will go to the top rear most fitting. 2 3 4 all go to up to the small reservoir tank that collects the fumes. 2 looks the longest and should reach the top front fitting on the gas tank. This leaves 3 and 4. One of these reaches the top tank fitting just forward of the return line. The other should connect to an aluminum hard line going forward to the charcoal canister by the rad. I don't see this line on the frame. Quote Link to comment
stheodore10
that doesnt sound right to me, 1 and 5 are both hard lines that reach the engine bay, 1 just has a piece of hose attatched for some reason. considering 5 is the other hard line to the engine bay im assuming this is the return line. it ends in the engine bay and goes to things i cant identify. so if what youre saying is correct about 5 and 2, that leaves 3 and 4 and nothing else to connect to Quote Link to comment

jvb5577
Sorry for all the pictures but easy way to read is pre '78 had two hard lines going to engine bay. '78 on has three. Did you replace the tank? Quote Link to comment

Did you replace the tank? not problem my man. not replaced sinc there was no need, but just lined the inside with red kote and replaced sender unit o ring and lock ring. only thing left to do fuel wise is learn where the hoses go... stheodore10
Here is a better diagram. i think this is the one i ave saved in my phone. my problem is i still cant tell exactly where these lines go, and even if i were to make an educated guess based on this diagram, i would still have the two hard lines i wouldnt know what to do with ya dig? jvb5577
Its hard to tell since I don't know where these lines are going to in the reservoir. Note the middle line of the three coming out of the reservoir is going to go to the hard line that goes the the drivers side engine bay. It draws from the vacuum line. The longer one coming from the reservoir is the one that is marked 31. Shorter one goes to the top outlet by the sender. So 2 3 or 4 is going to connect to 5 (which should cross over to the driver side engine bay) 1 is fuel line to filter. PS I just read Mikes post again. He nailed it. Quote Link to comment
stheodore10
so as i understand it now: 1 connects to side fitting 2 connects to front top fitting (3 or middle hose) connects to 5 (4 or last reservoir hose) connects to last top fitting 5 connects to center reservoir hose thoughts?
