jaredperry
Hello, I want to clean up my engine bay a little before I install the engine I am building. I am getting new brakes front a rear and I have already installed a 1" Willwood MC. I have also purchased a manual proportioning valve. My question is, can I remove the valve (Drivers side of Strut tower) If I install a scew type proportining valve? Are there any DIYs available or references that anyone knows of? link for Proportioing valve Thank you! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Do you need the proportioning valve? Don't the brakes work fine without it? Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Not a proportioning valve... just a brake light safety switch. Go ahead and remove it, I have and everything works fine ;) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
A 1" Wilwood unit is not a proportioning valve? Quote Link to comment
tr8er
The inline switch tells you when your brakes are close to failing. I am uncertain that it will even work right if you have different pressure to front and back. The switch is designed to close an electrical connection when the pressure to the front and back differ. In a stock configuration, this indicates a problem. There is no proportioning valve in a stock 510. I think the stock rear drum is adjustable though. I'd say get rid of it if you are going all Wilwood. But keep it around cause it's small and you never know when you may want it again. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I'd keep it. It indicates a hydraulic failure in one of the two systems. Probably a good idea. Quote Link to comment
jaredperry
Thanks for the replies everyone! I ended up purchasing JFZ front + rear calipers. I am going to install a proportioning valve regardless for entertainment purposes. I now need to find out what vented rotors I can use w/ the stock 510 hubs. I have a feeling I will need to make some sort of bracket. I am currently running 13" Advan a3as and would like to keep them. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
