Autometer also makes an engine block adapter from British to American SAE pipe thread which you may need to fit Autometer oil pressure Idiot Switch or new analog oil pressure senders. Look first to see if you have an adapter on your engine block. If not, buy their part number 2269 adapter.

I have had Autometer gages. Hard to read at night. The dial is solid and the illumination is around the dial.

I would look at Marshall Instruments they have a thru dial illumination http://www.marshallinstruments.com/catalog/comp2.cfm

or

SpeedHut has an emglo type product where the entire dial illuminates http://www.speedhut.com/gauges/

Speed hut will also customize your gage for you with different colors and graphics,

i have a 69 with an sr20det and im running into the same issue (PO did the swap and didn't get to the instrumentation phase).

I went with the itellitronix 5 gauge cluster since its the only thing i could find that was the rightish shape for my 69 and it came with the sending units it wanted. Ill be doing a writeup on it in my build thread as i go.

if you have a 70+ you have a LOT more options

Never seen a Autometer that was hard to read at night in  30 years.Autometer is the superior gauge.

The racecar in my avatar has Auto Meter Ultra-lite gages, never had one fail (and yes they work great in daylight). The F450 I tow it with has an A pillar mounted Ultra-Lite transmission temp gauge. You literally cannot see what the gauge reads at night.

If you mount the gauge on the "A" pilar where it has no illumination, why are you complaining that you can't see it at night?

im assuming sr20 is going to have the same sensor mounting as my red top sr20det so ill spew out some info i've picked up on it over the last week during my swap.

as far as i can tell the stock oil pressure sending unit only talks to the gauges (not the ecu) so since you probably don't have the s13 (or wherever you robbed the motor from) gauge cluster its probably useless to you. I was going to replace mine with the new sender unit for my new gauge. Thread is 1/8 bspt and my new unit is 1/8npt (most are npt, some like greddy are bspt). You can get adaptors cheap, or maybe even thread it in there (only 1 thread per inch difference, and slightly differnt taper) although i dont recommend it. You could run a sandwitch plate if you wanted, i just thought the adaptor was cleaner (and cheaper)

my sr20det comes with 2x water temp sending units. One with a 2 wires feeds the ecu so it knows how warm it is, the one wire one only talks to the gauge. I plan to replace the gauge sending unit with the sending unit for my new gauge. Theads on the stock sensor are m12x1.25 (very strange size). You can find adaptors to do m12x1.25 to npt 1/8 (normal sending unit thread). Another option is to tap another hole somewhere or run one of the inline couplings with a bung, but that would be after the thermostat. I again thought replacing the stock sensor was the cleanest option.
