tmac1991
I was wondering if I could change my third member in my rear end for a lsd third member. But idk what will work. Any help? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Sure you can. They came in Hardbody pickups 1988-1996.5 as an option when equipped with the Z24 or KA24E (2WD only, Four-cylinder only). Or you can buy the LSD unit and put it in your 3rd member. $600-$900 used or about $1200 new. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'88-'93 close enough. As it's only an option there's only one easy way to tell if any truck has one. Look on the back of the housing when looking at it from the rear bumper. There should be an orange sticker. Take a rag with you to wipe the grease off. Quote Link to comment

tmac1991
Ok what about this. A whole lsd rear with a gear lower then a 4.30 and is 6lug? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Nothing the correct width. Why LSD anyway? The 620 doesn't need it. Toyota maybe. Six bolt The early '80 ones were only about an inch wider than the '78. If they didn't come with them there are tons of after market support for off roading. Quote Link to comment
tmac1991
Because I have a v8 in my truck and I'm wanting more traction Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
good answer. D-21s (Hardbody) have H-233 with 4.625 and 4.375 LSDs. The H-233 is slightly larger than the Ford 9", leaf spring, six bolt but 1.5-2" wider per side so would need to be narrowed. Also available on the Pathfinder with rear disc brakes. If wanting a 3.545 or 3.70 you could swap the gear sets to keep the LSD. Lot of work but the ultimate LSD rear end. Quote Link to comment
tmac1991
The 4.375 is what I have now. Not a bad gear for what I'm doing. What yr d21 had the lsd 4.3275? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Depends on the truck. VG30 (V6) Hardbodys (leaf spring) and almost all Pathfinders (four link coil spring) had the H-233. The easiest way to tell was to look on the tag under the pass side hood hinge on the inner fender. At the bottom right will be HG43 (4.375) and HG46. (4.625) The LSD isn't marked on the tag as it's an option but if you look under the rear bumper at the back of the differential there will be a small orange sticker like this... Also, some time around the mid 90s the axle spline count and third member mounting bolt pattern changed so early and late parts may not swap. Early LSDs had almost 200 ft lbs of break away torque while much later ones were reduced to 29. I think soccer mom's were complaining too much about driving the Pathfinder around town, and as they seldom drove off the pavement, Nissan wimped the LSD out. Quote Link to comment
tmac1991
So I need to find a late 80's early 90's hg43 with the lsd sticker Quote Link to comment
