Ding, pling, ding

Recommended Posts

Those are the noises that started after my transmission swap, i have a 1972 521, the original transmission got stuck in 3rd and never came out, so i swapped it out and fit a 710 4 spd, the only difference is that the 710 didnt have the thread for the bolt that holds down the driveline shaft piece that slides in the tranny, ppl are telling me my diff is making those noises but i believe its the new tranny cause noise started right after swap.

Ideas?

Its noisy tranny but all gears are good

You did plug the hole in the end of the spline, right? A 40mm engine core plug (aka frost plug) will fit with some sealer to keep the transmission oil in.

Transmissions don't 'ping'. That sound is the hollow drive shaft pipe ringing. Inspect and replace the dry U joints.
