The zorst tip arrived today.  I think it will meet with approval.

And in other news: I'm kinda dumb.  No, really.  I had the realization the other day that 99% of the time, this car will be driven by me, alone, all by myself.  I went and spent part of my third Kung-Flu check on an intercom which may get used once or twice.  Then I remembered it is "portable" since it is powered by a cigarette lighter socket.  If I install a cigarette lighter socket (rather than hard-wiring it, like I had been planning), I can use the intercom in the Dajiban as well!  This lessens the amount of dumb... somewhat.  But yeah, I'm still dumb.

Of course, we won't go into the $300 worth of 30 round magazines I bought for my Canik pistols and/or Kel-Tec Sub-2000 because "I have magazine pouches for them."

Tim finished welding up the exhaust piping...

Gave it one last test fit with the new tip to make sure it's centered...

Then put some paint on the welds to combat rusting...

When it's done the tip should fit a little closer to the floor, but first we need to make some clearance in the spare tire well somehow. We shall see...

It was decided that since we will (most likely) be installing a roll bar in the car, and that since we will (most likely) have 5pt harnesses in the car, that we didn't want the control switches on the dash where they would be tough to reach while driving. We looked at a few options for switch placement and came to this...

We repurposed an old Painless switch box that was in this car back in the day with a new top and some new switches.  👍

We also looked at relocating the stock e-brake handle further back, but have tentatively decided to use a hydraulic brake instead. If we do, it will be something along these lines...

Which handbrake we use may come down to what rear calipers we use. We have some Maxima calipers that will work with stock e-brake cables, but have been contemplating something a bit more flash like a Brembo 2-piston caliper...

I couldn't remember if we have mentioned our plans for the door "glass."  I went back a few pages and didn't see it.  I'm wondering if I should consult with John about letting any cats out of bags here.  Bah! It's my car!  So, we're planning on replacing the roll up and triangle vent glass with a single piece of plexi.  With that plan in mind, I ordered a set of plexi sliders and little round pop-out vents from an outfit in Jolly Old.  They have cleared customs and left Chicago on a USPS truck this morning at 0240h.  So, with them coming via the post office, we may see them sometime in the middle of the summer.

Well, I guess bitching about the post office in a random, backwater web forum gets stuff to happen!  The plexi sliders and pop outs arrived today!   I took a picture, but it's just of the package sitting in the back of the Smart waiting to go to the shop.  Once we have the plexi bits for the actual side windows, we'll show y'all what's up with them.

And in other news, I added some lightness, and a support rib thingy, to the dash while waiting for John to arrive.  Once he did, we grokked the thing and came up with a plan for the face... and then implemented that plan.  John has the piece we made and is going to round the corners for me.  Saturday we should be installing gauges and stuff.

Got the face plate rough cut to size and installed some rivnuts in the dash to screw it on...

Then traced the dash shape onto it from the backside and cut the panel to match...

Then when my back was turned, Tim drilled a bunch of holes in it...

Fuse panel is expected to go over on the right side like so...

And a test fit in the car...

...unless Tim does something stupid like buy a Rally Computer to put over there."

So, to prevent myself from doing something stupid, like buying a rally computer, I drilled a bunch more holes in the dash and mounted the two fuse boxes and USB port thingy.  John will post a picture soon, or you can grok my instant gram.

Now I need to figure out how to wire 44 circuits with 22 color/gauge combinations (11 colors in 12 gauge and the same 11 colors in 14 gauge).

And, after several sleepless nights and one failed attempt at a spreadsheet, I think I have it sorted.

Bonus points if you can tell me which pictures is upside down.

The one on the right in the first picture (the one with your toes), and second to last as I scroll through the full page pictures.

We have a winner... sort of.  The piece of paper is actually right side up in the "toes" picture.  I don't know how it got flipped for the individual shot.

I only mentioned the toes pic to identify the upside down  picture.

I feel like I should wait for John to post the picture he took, but I won't.

Today I installed a MaxiFuse, turn signal indicators, high beam indicator, reset button for the odometer, and a little cubby for my phone.

My pictures can be seen... on my instant grams!

I keep hoping you will, but I know better...  😁

Tim started disassembling things to add more things...

Added two LEDs for turn signal indicators, and a MAXI fuse holder...

On the speedo side, added a button that controls the trip odometer, and a light for a high beam indicator...

And Tim used the ash tray mount, and bended up some sheet metal, to make a phone holder...
