TENDRIL
they are the same, one just has the "matchbox" mounted to the body of the dizzy Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Often the dizzy is grabbed and the remote igniter box is forgotten or lost. If you get one like this you can swap to a matchbox or add a Chevy HEI module. Either way they both work and do the same job. Quote Link to comment
Curt
Ok, I understand. I was curious why you changed yours from the remote module EI, to the matchbox EI distributor with the distributor mounted module. Was it just for a cleaner look? Or is there other performance benefits of the matchbox over the remote mounted module. Quote Link to comment
laotsu
no performance benefit upgrade per se but some people do worry aboot the matchbox being angled towards the exhaust manifold and rotate their oil pump spindle 180 to protect it. Personally I run mine unrotated and have never had a problem, but then again the longest I have driven Ol' blue is 200 miles at one time. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
And that's why its better, to get the matching pedestal and timing plate. It'll be rotated away from the hot manifold. Get L20B distributor for L20B, L18 or L16 engines. Z20 4-plug distributor will work but doesn't bolt in with same rotation. no performance benefit upgrade per se but some people do worry aboot the matchbox being angled towards the exhaust manifold and rotate their oil pump spindle 180 to protect it. laotsu
Hmmmm? I guess I have a z dizzy Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Hmmmm? I guess I have a z dizzy Still will work. Drop the oil pump spindle and clock it around so the vacuum advance does not hit the thermostat housing and the matchbox is, more or less, away from the hot exhaust. I've sold one Z20E matchbox and given the other away. Quote Link to comment
laotsu
I've been running it up against the exhaust manifold for four years with no problems... JINX! Quote Link to comment
