CV axle kicking my ass...

Recommended Posts

Alrighty so months ago, I got my cv axle kit from a guy on ebay. Long story short, I put them together, and there's no movement. It literally is like a dumbbell.. But when the ball bearings, cage, and bearing hub are all together outside of the cv housing, it moves perfectly fine. But when I go to put the assembly into the cv housing, I can't even budge it a little.... I don't see any marks to align to make sure its in correctly... I can get it in pretty damn smooth but after that, it freezes up once everything it put together.. any ideas? When I put it in, it goes straight down, then has to flip over, so the ball bearings will fit nicely.. Is that where I went wrong?.. Help me before I paint the entire floor in this damn grease :w00t:

Not sure about your 510, but on the early 240Z the bible was the remove, clean, and replace the ball bearings with a bit of grease in the slots so that the balls location would survive the reassembly chore.  Does this make sense in your situation?

As you can see, I made the indents on the middle hub and the indents on the cv outter housing line up the same. On the middle hub and the cv housing, it has 3 big sides, and I lined those up as well. As you can see in the pics below, the assembly has easy movement when it isn't inside the cv housing. once it gets put in, I can't move it at all...
