Tires are also part of the ride. Some can transmit road noise and tar bumps more than others. Run your air pressure as low as recommended on the sidewall. DO NOT run under inflated. Try for a 'softer' tire next time.

Has someone cut your springs in an attempt to lower the ride height? This will raise the spring rate, usually this is preferred for handling.

Stock driver's seat or some cobbled together after market POS??? A 'racing' seat may be a bit firm for the average driver more concerned with comfort.

Replace the rear shocks and put new inserts in the front strut.... this will give the most bang for the buck

I had been running blown front struts for a year and a half... no biggie... just installed 280zx front struts (pick a year) and add a little over an inch in spacers wrapped in electrical tape and taped to the bottom of the strut... add a little 20W if you are out of fluid ..

The ride on the front feels 35% better but i think i need better springs in the rear... (squaky)

Shocks take the harshness out of a spring suspension. They resist sudden compression and expansion of the springs. Without them, wheels are just like basketballs and would bounce right off the road going over bumps at speed. Smoother is relative. Too soft a spring and the car will be mushy in handling and wander in corners needing constant steering input to keep on course. It will seem to tip to the outside on turns and dive when braking. A properly sprung car with good and well damped suspension is a joy to drive.

Cars tend to be slightly soft to provide for the most driver's comfort. Most will be a compromise of comfort over handling. In most cases slightly firmer makes driving more enjoyable with a minimum of comfort loss.
