Plug on Mikunis/solex

Recommended Posts

Hello

I bought a twin mikunis 40phh but i m expecting for them... i see on a green plug. Is a switch? a valve? My original carb has a valve i think it is to cut gas when we turn of ignition on a key.

Its for a heating element (think choke)

found at  http://www.rmcarburetors.net/oem_toyota_solex_type_t.htm

Starter/Jet Cover

This cover is held on with four bolts.  Two that go right through and two that screw into the main cover.

The electrical connection is there to run a small heating element just under the cover and connected into the ignition circuit.  It is put there to pre-heat the air and fuel in climates that get very low temperatures such as found in North America, Japan and throughout Europe.  Here in Australia we can remove the connected wires as we do not need this feature.

The air/fuel ratio is the same for all gasoline engines. For smooth running go for 14:1. For most HP use 12.5:1 at full throttle. For most fuel economy 15:1 or leaner can be utilized but be careful. For least all around emissions, jet for 14.7:1. It is safe if it never goes richer than 12:1 and never leaner than 14:1.

Where engines require unique tuning is in in transient operation - throttle changes and load changes. Most of the effort is spent getting that perfect by using different emulsion tubes, accelerator pump adjustment, sometimes idle jets. If a combo of 32v/120m/170a gives 14:1 with a steady throttle but leans out on throttle opening, then 32v/130m/180a might help even though it is still 14:1 on steady throttle.

Buy the Mikuni or Weber tuning book on eBay - or pay an expert to tune it. Mikuni PHH are tuned just like Weber DCOE.

Here is a good article on air/fuel ratio

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0402_innovate_air_fuel_ratio_meter/

Full throttle should try 12.5:1. Full throttle is enriched by the power valve. Sudden throttle openings need extra richness for acceleration which is provided by the accelerator pump squirter.
