ok so I answered my own question the drive shaft will not bolt up to the new flange, the new one the holes are more spread out. but now I feel like if I were to switch them, at the bottom of the old flange where it starts to cup around the housing will not fit around the new one. i don't have a caliper to measure will it fit or am I wasting my time?

how would i identify a h190 by looking off of the vin sticker?

this is what i went by

you can check your tag on your 720 to see what one yours came with.  It will read HF37 or HF38 ect...  I put 3.889 in my 521 just swapping the gear set...

Only the 2wd 4 cylinder Hardbodys got the H-190.

HF38 I'm pretty sure the F is for 190 and 38 is 3.889 ratio.

I hate to say this but I bet the 521 flange spline is smaller than the pinion spline on the Hardbody it has to mate to. Only way to know is to remove but don't be surprised.

The reason I ask is I had a 4wd diff from an early 720 ... should fit a 2wd right? Both are H-190 before the '83s changed to the C200 on the 4x4s. At some point the 4x4 driveshaft was made larger diameter and the flange bolt pattern diameter also enlarged. I figured just swap the 2wd flange onto it, but no. Nissan also changed the pinion spline on them. Figured maybe they kept this on through the Hardbody. Good to know thanks.

so the 620 flange is different from the 521 flange?

As far as I know they are basically the same, but I don't know everything.

I just know that I seen that LSD that was not marked as such under a hardbody( I spun one side and the otherside turned the same way), and a 620 right next to it, so I took the hardbody pumpkin out expecting to see a welded differential and got a big surprise, that is when I pulled a 620 axle and dropped it into the  hardbody pumpkin and it fit, I still did not believe that is was a H190 for sure, so I installed the 620 pumpkin into the hardbody axle and slid the hardbody axle into the 620 pumpkin, that is when I realized I actually did have the rare sought after LSD H190, the only issue I had then was that the pinion flange was a different pattern than the  driveline flange pattern I have on my trucks, so i removed the hardbody pinion flange, I removed the 620 pinion flange and compared them, the part that went into the pumpkins looked the same, so I put the 620 flange into the hardbody H190 LSD and it fit, so I went into the office and bought the pumpkin for about $99.00, and walked out of there very happy, I also purchased a set of 720 4X4 leafs, and 521 windshield, the carrier for a C200, I bought a bunch of stuff that day, here is a link to that post in my acquisition thread.

wayno I've known of these for years but this is the first even seen. It should have an orange LSD sticker on the bum. It was an option for 4 cylinder 2wd D-21s. Only down side is the gearing ain't great but that can be swapped.

Yea, the gearing is 354, my SD25 diesel can turn them as it is turning that gearing now, but why would I need a posi, if I was going out in the woods to get wood, and had a low range, it would be great, but for a daily driver that has the hole shot of a glacier, there is no point.

Selmers on here has a 720 with a factory posi I believe.

This rearend housing that had the LSD was not marked, as I looked at that when both drums turned the same way at the yard, that is why I thought it would be a welded differential, I was very surprised, and that is why I went through all that effort to make sure it was a real H190 LSD, I just didn't believe it was one, I am not that lucky usually, that was a good day for me, everything I bought that day was good and worked, 4X4 leafs, a C200 carrier that actually worked in my dually rearend housing that came from a late Nissan 4X4, so now I know where to get parts for them, a good 521 windshield, and that LSD, it was a good day.

So,if I was looking for one of these h190 lsd's which 4 cyl,2wd trucks possibly have them? Also, doesn't a 510 wagon also use a h190 ? Would this differential be a possible swap into a wagon as well? I understand that the gears might need to be changed to make it a daily driveable car,or truck whichever it would be swapped into.

Early wagons have the H190, but have different axles, although you might be able to swap the side gears in the LSD also, I do not actually have the answer to that question.

I found mine in a 93 hardbody, all you can do is walk through the wrecking yards and turn the drums on every hardbody and 720 that has an H190, if the other drum turns the same way, then investigate further by dropping the pumpkin out and taking a look.

I found mine at the foster rd PNP, that was a good day for me, a very good day, I bought almost $400.00 in parts that day.

im assuming now that the 620 flange would be more like the 720 flange.

How did you solve the problem?
