jvb5577
You saved the easiest for last. Bed is really easy to get off. Loving the progress keep it up! By the way what are you going to do for brakes? KA with stock drums is a no no. Quote Link to comment
red13
i would like to get the front to disc, but i am going to run my l16 and find a 5 speed trans. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Disc don't stop any faster than properly adjusted drums. They have two advantages: 1) don't require adjustment every 1000 miles 2) are fade-resistant 1 Quote Link to comment
red13
Got the bed off tonight. It was not east at all. All bolts super rusty and the tabs were bent so they just spun, used a c- clamp to hold them. The best though was the P.O. decided to hook up some sort of tow bar on the back to haul something. So the original licence plate frame was welded to the frame of the truck and the bar he welded in had lag in the holes to put the socket in. Took me a few hrs or so, but it's done now starting to clean and remove the rust. Quote Link to comment

You should have been able to get a socket on top to hold the nut from spinning. That happened to me on a few, the tap was bent and it would spin too. Glad you got it off though! Are you going to be repainting the truck? Quote Link to comment
red13
yes i plan on it, but i wanted to get it all apart and get rid of the rust as best as I can. Tat way I can paint the frame and undercoat the body. Might has do it right the first time. Quote Link to comment

BlackBird620
What year is it? Early 620s 72.5-74 bed bolts were studs with the tab on them then they went to actual bolts with the tab Quote Link to comment
red13
it says 9/72 on the plate. Quote Link to comment

red13
I am looking at moving my fuel tank to the frame from the bed. I see that there isn't any reservoir tank on the newer 620. I was wondering do i need that and is it difficult to do this? Also is it better for the truck? Quote Link to comment
jvb5577
The 78 and 79 have an extra cross member that allowed a frame mounted tank. So you would have to fabricate a mount up to do it. No need to do it unless you don't want it mounted to the bed anymore. Quote Link to comment
