does anyone know why Nissan marketed under the Datsun name when they first came into the North American market?

It was to distance the Nissan company from the possibility of failure as they didn't expect to succeed selling their cars to us...

funny little fact...saw it on the speed channel last night...they had a good little ditty about Datsun's etc...

anyways, maybe you guys should make a section for the Nissan cars/trucks.

suggestion: maybe as Mods/Admin you guys should set up a private section for you guys to discuss this kind of stuff...just a thought.

the factory steering wheel had a large outter grip and was real slick. The Z wheel is so much better. I love it. :D and it was free...

I have a 280zx steering wheel on my 620. The Z wheel is so much better. I do love it, and it was free also. Still expecting my truck to go faster but nothing yet. I'll check again....

..... nope!

Bleach...got your pm...I'll check. Last time I did the front steering knuckles on a fwd car...I had to buy the entire knuckle. It's definitely gonna need a press. I'll try to get you the info by this afternoon.

if it comes to that, I'll just to buy a spindle from a wrecking yard. Less work too. I don't have a press or want to pay a machine shop for stuff like this. The car isn't worth that much.

Its not the CV joint or axel that is a problem. Just the hub with the lug nuts that sets inside that spindle assembly I have in the vice.

yep....bearing has to be pressed....here's some pics if you still need them.

hhmmm....pic upload doesn't seem to be as nice and easy as nwde.....but it doesn't sound like you need them anyway. If you want full size images, either pm me an email address, or tell me how to do the pics :)

You're more than welcome!! Sorry I didn't get it up sooner....bre620 and I were in the shop working on some custom hinges.....people might actually get to see the bedcover this year! :)

I skipped a page since it wouldn't load do to size....if you'd like it, I can try it again. They all came out small.

Hey...make a trip down here....there's a couple of pulsars in the Boring yard :) ....hhmm...or just bring the hub and the bearing and use my shop press :) I think the $10 to have it pressed up there is cheaper than the gas!

oh...us Oregonians are that bad.....but you bring out the best in us :)

It worked!

Ok, the body style that my Pular is went from 1987-89. The vented rotors on my car were available in 1988-89 (mine is an 88)

The 1987 car I found in the wrecking yard appeared to have the same knuckle and I already knew it used the same wheel bearings. I noticed it has solid rotors up front. I bought the assembly hoping it would work.

Look like you can bolt on the 1988-89 brakes onto a 1987 Pulsar for a small upgrade. That might also be true on the 1986 and older Pulsars... but I'm not sure. The car I got this knuckle from had the old 1.5L SOHC engine. The axels are not the same as mine but the end piece is that slips into the wheel bearing.

went for a test drive and the slight wobble and grinding noise are gone! ...although in reality I need to get new rotors up front but that can wait. There is still a lot of material left on the brake pads :o

that's good info....if my pulsar becomes a driver...I may see about upgrading the brakes....but I thought my '86 already had vented rotors. Maybe it does because it came with the CA16, which was the best motor for that year. Maybe I'll look tomorrow.

Glad to hear you got it done!!

I thought 1986 was the more boxy type? You have the rounded edge Pulsar like mine don't you?

1983-86 have the E16 SOHC

1987 had either the E16 or CA16DE

(sorry, so the one in the yard was a 1.6 not 1.5) :)

1988 had either the E16 or CA18DE

1989 had either the GA16 or CA18DE

it even shows the 1990 Pulsar as only coming with the GA16. I've never seen a 1990 Pulsar

you're right though. Looks like the CA16DE cars got a thicker rotor. Keep in mind you need to install the caliper that goes with a certain rotor.

The rotor shows a different part number for the 1987 CA16 and the 1988 CA18 but both are vented...

my bad....PK just checked the title for me....it's an '87. I do know that it was the only year of the CA16DE....so it's a bit of a challenge finding parts for it. I think that the 5spd in there was only for that year too, but I'm not sure about that. I just need to get it back on the road, or just sell it as a project. It's been hanging over my head for over a year now. Oh well....lathe projects today, maybe pulsar tomorrow :)

There was a CA16DE 5-speed Pulsar in our wrecking yard last October. Jeff saw it. :) it was red too!

I got the engine cover plate, coil packs, and rear body panel from that car.

The 1987 car I found yesturday was gold like mine. Too bad I don't really need any body parts... or care too much. :D its a nice looking beater. I should probably dent it up a little and put some primer on it so I fit in better with the Ratsun group

;)

Good to hear bleach, that car is going to be in mint condition in no time :D

Mike haven't you had that pulsar for over 2 years? I could be wrong but what year was I at your place in my 510? Maybe that was only a year ago.
