FlannelFairlady
So I am planning on picking up a set of 15x8's with a -13mm offset but I am not sure they will fit under the flares of my 280z with 225/45r15 rubber. I just don't want to get the wheels and realize they won't fit. Quote Link to comment
CorAce
If you have a set that fits now to use as a comparison this web site will help you determine if you have room. http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
They won't fit. Negative offset will place the tires outside the fenders. Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
Of course it does, oh well I can find other wheels they are just steelies anyways. I wish I had a welder so I could do flares. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
ZG flares, no welding needed. Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
They need welding if you want them to be functional. the fronts you can just cut but the rears need to have the inner fender welded to the outer once cut. Quote Link to comment

FlannelFairlady
So many things but it would be funny so that counts for something. I wonder if 15x8 with a 0 offset would work or would it hit the stock suspension. Quote Link to comment
dr.feltersnatch
Use panel adhesive. Most body shops dont weld much anymore. Google 3m Panel adhesive its good stuff. Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
I feel like that is half assing it but thanks for the info. Quote Link to comment
CorAce
What are the specs of your current wheels? Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
My wheels are stock right now so 14x5 with 195/70r14 tires. Quote Link to comment
CorAce
Using the calculator I linked you on before It looks like you should be able to fit an 8" wide wheel with no problems but you need to fined out what your current offset is and keep it close to that. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The current offset is +15 I think. I doubt that 8" wide +15 wheels will fit. Maybe +0 or +10 might fit. Quote Link to comment
CorAce
You might be right, I tried two different calculators and got two different answers. One measures from the rim (38mm closer to strut) and one from the tire (15mm closer to strut) assuming the same offset. I don't know Z cars so I don't know what clearance he has to work with now and I don't know how accurate the calculators are ether. I guess I'm kinda talking out my ass on this topic. I'm struggling with the same issue right now as it seems all the rims I like for my dime only come in 8" widths. Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
I am just going to do my coilover swap first then I know 15x8's will fit or maybe 16x8's if I can find them in the flavor I want. If I absolutely have to I will pick up a set of used tires for the stock wheels to hold me over another month. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
get on a Z car site. I know the 280z has more room to work with than say the 240Z. "Bleach" on here, I swear had 16x8 or even 9in ROTA RBs(on rears) but he had a 280zx. PM BLEACH he can tell you Quote Link to comment
FlannelFairlady
I think you might be wrong on that, the 280z has pretty much the same suspension as a 240. I have seen wheels that wide on Z's but they usually have coils. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I know the suspension the same but wheel offset are different and 280z might be slightly bigger wheel wheels. But not certain. Quote Link to comment
