ggzilla
How did you fix that dash so well ? I did not know this would restore a dash! Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
How did you fix that dash so well ? the dash removed and a better top was installed also painted the metal part of the frame with black enamel< it stated this in the beginning of the post but the dash restore does bring back the black color real well I thought I posted a pic of the new dash top before and after the cleaner / restorer but I might not have looked back through the post and my phone pics the one she was cleaning was a decent different top but was old and faded looking the glove box door was a different one but was painted with vinal paint because the restorer didnt work the same on the plastic as the rubber or softer dash material Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Ah. So what did you use the Back To Black on? Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
Ah. So what did you use the Back To Black on? the dash top and face the one we put on was pretty faded and white looking I guess I didnt get pics of it before we started cleaning it it is made to restore rubber components like bumper rubber etc the dash is a form of rubber so it worked well on it but not so good on the plastic pieces like the glove box and ash tray so I painted those parts with a vinyl paint Quote Link to comment

njoz1200ute
why did you have to replace your water pump so many times? Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
tryed to get new ones and they were all wrong do I used some used ones in hopes they were good the last used one I put on did not leak on the motor it was on but leaked on this one my intent was to run new from the start but got two wrong water pumps before I got the correct one the first one was an a series and fit but has a different center hub so you need a different pulley and spacer to make it work and I didn't have the one for it I only had the old style that came on the car Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
nice work guys! In regards to wheel bearings, i always just used a nissan spec of 22ft lbs, maintained as you spin the hub and the bearings seat, then just cotter pin it and go. Never had hot hubs, or a bearing fail from it. Quote Link to comment

Ranman72
well I am getting used to doing things on this car twice so the tie rod ends should be no different it was my understanding that b210 components needed to be used when running zx struts and I didnt do the swap I bought it with the zx struts in it so I ordered b210 tie rod ends and they dont fit they are a larger diameter so ordering new 1200 tie rod ends and we will try it again another weekend Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
No B210 parts are used (at least not USA B210). Datsun 210 LCAs, castor rods, and the smaller of the two 210 balljoints are used. Or the larger 210 balljoints if you want increased track. Quote Link to comment

I am still learning what was installed on this car so the 1200 tie rod ends will be good the ball joints are new but I dont know if they are smaller or larger how do you tell the difference Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Measure the track? 1240 mm with +30 wheels. For zero offset wheels, add +30 mm to each side, i.e. 1240 + 30 + 30 = 1310 mm Quote Link to comment
CGS1948
thanks I think I have the right one coming now 1st pump o'reilly it wasw the later style and takes a different pulley and a spacer second one ordered from rock auto said it was for a 1200 turns out it is an l series third one from rock auto and alot of research should be the early style and correct got my fingers crossed I've done RockAuto for about seven years now, and they usually get it right the second time. They sell LOTS of stuff worldwide. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
car started sputtering and losing power then go again then lose power I would drain the fuel bowl. Don't need to remove the carb to do it. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Carburettor_Diagnosis#Multiple_Symptoms Quote Link to comment

Ranman72
so I got home from being out of town and the car started right up and ran great so we took her for a spin and ended up dead about 5 miles away car had no spark then it would then it wouldnt ..... babied it home and found this so far I think it was the problem the coil wire was arching at the coil to the negative terminal when the distributor cap was removed and didnt arch when the cap was on ???????? I replaced the coil wire still no good cleaned all the connections at distributor and coil still no good then found this on the positive side of the coil so I tried this and it runs 1230 at night and will have to get a terminal tomorrow 2 Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
new box o parts what could it be the suspense is killing me but I realy know what it is already straight from Australia a 1200 passenger mirror 2 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That looks like the correct mirror. I bought my 1200 right side from Nissan in 2006. Aussie 1200 mirrors dont match USA mirrors but look like 510 mirrors. Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
well I found another wire break on the positive side of the coil it was the condenser wire so I fixed them both new points/ Nissan condenser / cap /rotor / wires also it had a bad oil leak on the oil pump previous owner ripped the gasket and used orange permatex on it and it leaked BAD so new gasket and sealer also installed the passenger mirror and painted a drivers side to match the car had a bad clunk in the front end ,it turned out to be loose top nuts on the strut inserts where they went through the camber plates tightened them up and it seems good we will test drive tomorrow 3 Quote Link to comment
