BajaScout
Anyone know what thermostat and gasket will work for a 65 320? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Take the old one with you or the top rad outlet and test fit them. If the thermostat mounts on it's side it should have a jiggle valve towards the top to bleed any trapped air. Back then most thermostats were about the same size. I would imagine around 180F Quote Link to comment
BajaScout
King Rat, Thanks. Looking at the housing it lays flat. Quote Link to comment
Conner
Try Beck Arnley 143-0685. That's a 180 degree thermostat for a J13 engine 520 truck. It should fit and has the jiggle valve. $7 from Rockauto. The housing gasket is B/A 039-0036. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good price. I wouldn't go any cheaper on this vital part. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
I have found that most aftermarket thermostat gaskets sold for early Datsuns are too thin on the outside to the thermostat recess in the fitting, a Chrystler corporate [usually stocked as a Plymouth or Dodge] thermostat gasket fits the thermostat and the mounting holes and has the requisite edge thickness to properly seal. They don't need Permatex, but I apply anyway! Quote Link to comment
BajaScout
Appreciate all the info. I have several other items to order from RockAuto, so I will put an order in today. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Beck/Arnley has quality stuff so if you can find a B/A thermostat for less than $7, don't be afraid to go for it. The quality is what matters, not the price. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Quality first. Presumably a $3 Chinese POS WallMart one will have less quality control than a $12 one. What's a boil over worth to you? Quote Link to comment
