TheShagginWagon
Has anyone come up with a solution on how to run the stock e-brake to the the Maxima rear calipers on the top location on the 510 sedan? I have seen where they have put them on the bottom, but that is a pain for bleeding. Other than ditching my stock springs for coilovers (to have a clear path for the cable to run) I don't see how this could work. Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
I'm looking at this setup: http://www.silverminemotors.com/datsun/datsun-510/brake-upgrades/510-rear-disk-conversion-brake-upgrade-kit I have everything for the 280zx conversion, but I'm wondering what caliper he uses? He says the caliper is off the shelf, I'm just wondering if the setup couldn't be pieced together for a lot less, since I already have the zx mounting bracket... maybe it's the same? Maybe it works with your Maxima setup?.... Quote Link to comment
TheShagginWagon
That is a nice looking kit, and the calipers look to be the same as my Maxima calipers. I don't know about, or have heard of anyone using a 280zx caliper or mounting bracket for the rear in a 510. I bought custom aluminum brackets from Kregs engineering for $140 that fit and look great. My question still is, has anyone adapted the stock ebrake cable to work with this kit or any other Maxima caliper setup on TOP OF THE ROTOR (under of course would be an easy cable install) Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
I bought the whole kit that Josh K. sells for the 280zx rear conversion, with the barking brake adapter setup. Scroll around on these pages (and then some), to get some ideas on how to make your own, or maybe adapt the 280zx parking brake kit to work with your setup. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24498-just-another-build-thread-510/page-19 http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24498-just-another-build-thread-510/page-30 http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24498-just-another-build-thread-510/page-33 The Silvermine setup says it can be used with stock parking brake cables!?.... It looks like they are using maybe a 1990 Maxima caliper. **I just did a little more research. For what it's worth, the 280zx rear caliper uses a 42.9mm piston, versus the Maxima piston at 34mm. I do like the positioning of the Maxima parking brake cable bracket better though. Maxima 280zx Quote Link to comment
TheShagginWagon
Thanks for directing me to Josh's thread, you're right he does have some good cable routing ideas. That guy does some incredible work, I especially like those cable sleeves he machined. I think I will end up going with coil overs and the Lokar kit also. By the way my calipers are '86 Maxima with '82 200sx rotors Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
He does do some awesome work! Thanks for the info on the calipers. Quote Link to comment
Dzaster
I used the Maxima rear caliper, although on a wagon. I wound up settling on the Lokar EC-80FU cables. With some creativity and depending how picky you are they can be easily made to work lots of applications--interior, exterior, handbrake, under dash pull type, etc. Quote Link to comment
