And since I kept the big brakes I built for the 610, I'll probably use them on this.

To refresh your memory...

M30 struts, 280Z coils, custom camber plates...

Early Z31 4-lug hubs and 11.25" rotors, early Z32 4-piston aluminum calipers with fresh pads, and ARP 2.5" studs...

I may at some point swap them to 5-lug hubs, but not sure yet...

Kinda want to try these...   B)

Got some 5" ULTRA-LITE gauges for the car...

My truck has an A-pillar mounted 2 1/16" ultra-lite gage and it is impossible to read at night. They are fine in the daytime (they worked great in my racecar) but the back lighting glares terribly on the silver face making the gage impossible to read at night.

I would do a simple test mock-up (card board and duct tape) and see how they look to you in the dark. Be a pain to go thru all that work and not like them.

Thanks for the tip.

Will do.  B)

Honestly, I probably won't drive the car at night very much, but it will probably be enough to experience that problem. Did you by chance try different colored bulbs at all?

Main reason I'm using these is the "look" first, and secondly... I had them in my parts stash so...

I haven't tried colored lighting. Its a transmission fluid temp gage, so unless I'm hauling the racecar over mountains it doesn't move too much.

As to what color, something in the red toward amber range might help. Blue is like kryptonite to me, it blurs everything. I can't stand the gages in my wife's Civic because of the blue.

10-4 on looks, that is why I had them in my racecar.

And yes, using parts out of the stash helps keep build costs down.

I have amber and green bulb covers, so I'll try both.

Not a blue fan myself. I love the amber gauges in my Mazda, so may try that first...   ^_^

So...

Two things happened this week to make this project take a major left turn...

Started tearing down the '71 4dr and found out it had a lot more rust than I initially thought. Oh well, I like cutting and welding so...

Then came home and cruised craigslist as I am prone to do when a project isn't going my way, and noticed Lonestar had his '68 wagon up for sale.

Seems he had it already torn down to a rolling shell, so after a few texts back and forth we came to a deal and I picked it up today...

Rails look a lot better than my car...

Needs a good bit of work under the hood, but not really any rust...

Loaded up and on the way to my house...

I'll be tearing it down the rest of the way to get it prepped for paint. Then when it's back from paint, the real work will begin...

I'll be using the L16 engine from the 4dr (trans TBD), and probably the rear suspension from it also...   B)

Story time...

About 9 years ago I saw this same '68 wagon at a friend's shop. I asked if it was for sale and he said "no way". Then a few years later he calls and says he might sell it. I had no cash at the moment and so I let it sit. A couple of months later, I sold one of my cars and so I asked about it again and he said "well, this guy put a deposit on it and I need to see what he's gonna do".

Well, fast forward another two years and he finally calls me and says "I don't think this guy is buying it, do you want it?". I didn't have much cash at the time so I offered to put a deposit on it and pick it up a month later. He said "that's cool", and since he held it for the other guy for two years I thought I'd be fine. Well, not so much. When I came back to pick it up 4 weeks later he says "Oh, I already sold that car to a guy in Houston".   :sneaky:

So the guy in Houston has it for a little while and ends up putting it up for sale on craigslist with his 710 wagon as a package deal. Again, either it's not for sale and I have cash, or it is for sale and I don't.

Thankfully, a Ratsuner local to me (Lonestar) bought it for a project and brought it back up here to DFW. After starting to dismantle it for paint he decided he wanted something in a little better condition so he put it up on craigslist. We exchanged a few texts, found out I had some parts he needed for his 210 project, struck a deal and now it's finally at my house.   B)
