That run was 15.1 @ 95mph and a blistering 2.8 60'.  Unless its been changed from what was in the CL ad for that truck about a year and a half ago it still has an L20 in it.

beyond damn good... power to weight ratio you got going on is choice. Sooo you gonna keep modding this and raise the HP more over time? after a certain amount of power wouldn't you want to add weight to your back end?

 

what is your 0 to 60mph timing?

I'm working on adding boost now. I've got the boost controller setup to push about 15psi now up from the 9 I had on wastegate alone. The real goal for this year is not to blow up the diff, beyond that not chasing a number. No idea what 0-60 is and on these tires I'm never going to get a solid number since I can't launch or really hammer on first.

so its got some fine tuning to go but still, looking great, awesome power from your build. would you ever fabricate a new suspension system on it?

Suspension updates are on my list although I'm a ways out from trusting my welding on anything that structural. I do have some projects planned for the daily this winter that will hopefully build that confidence up a bit.  Any major updates are at least a year out though; I have too many other projects and just want to enjoy this one for a while before taking it back apart.

yeah I'd wanna sit on the truck working as is awhile too, just roll around in your spoils of turbo boosted goodness. Now to wait a year for Trucky Chan to hit stage 2 or would it be 3? gives me time to get KA parts prepare to update my truck to fumble about catching up to this build eventually.

This was phase 3 actually. Phase 1 was just getting it running and road Worthy. Phase 2 was the swap. The way I seem to project creep on these phases I don't want to even think about what all will be included in 4.

The chirp while shifting is really nothing new though, the L16 could manage it into all the gears. What is new is it starting to spin at the top of 2 and 3.

Not a whole lot going on with the truck at this point. Just been enjoying driving it. I did finally get around to reconnecting the mini amp so I have music again. I have the patch panels welded in for the fascia but am holding off on finishing the body work on it until I decide if I'm going to deepen the opening to allow for more air flow over the intercooler.

 

I have not been to a real dyno and really not sure if I'm going to bother.  I do have a friend with Virtual Dyno, which has proven to be pretty accurate when supplied with the correct values. The results were actually a little surprising, but not out of line with what I have been able to find for similar builds. Anyway the truck is estimated to make 381 hp 364 tq. My power goal was 350-400, so if these numbers are accurate I'm happy to not continue adding boost and just get the tune dialed in. The only value I couldn't find a solid number on is the drag coefficient for the truck so I guessed based on what I could find (73 Sunny wagon).

 

Since this portion off the project is pretty well wrapped updates will be sparse for a while as I work on the back log of other projects.  One such project I wrapped up last night, just a quick little thing for the house.

I had hoped to avoid pinning the hood on the truck, but since the metal around the hood latch is cracking safety is kinda forcing my hand. I wanted to keep the latches as inconspicuous as possible so...

I considered those as well, and will likely use them on the other car. These ones will sit fairly flush once the hood has some new holes.

I would have simply reinforcered the latch mechanism with a back plate

I considered that as well, but my experience with welding on the old sheet metal has been frustrating. Maybe one day I'll find a good hood and use this one to play with some ideas I have floating around.

And then there were latches.

 

 

All cinched down they sit about 3 washers high on the hood.

 

Brackets are pretty simple. 1/8" angle tucked under the rail on the core support with 1/8" flat bar welded to it.  I've got the brackets back out for paint so I'll get pics of those later.

 

The motivating factor.

 

The hood is very thin as such there is a fair amount of flex around the latches so I'll be making some plates to attach to the underside to help spread the load.

This is the best image I could find right away. The latch mechanism is a spring loaded ring of ball bearings.
