Tis because the new McLaren engine is developed from the Nissan VRH engine.

Makes me want a McLaren even more. I just dont like the front of the P1.

as far as I can tell the only similarity is the cylinder bore...but afterall that does make it pretty much the same engine <_<

Thats what they say, but look at some of the mounting points. And the angle is the same. I would bet money that the valve angles are the same too. Theres more similarities than McLaren claims.

Thats not to say that they didnt re-develope the living crap out of it. I dont think you could ever street a VRH engine. However the M838T does awesome on the street.

McLaren loves the Japanese, their brakes are the best the Japanese have to offer right now. The original F1 was partly inspired by the road going ability of the Honda NSX, Murray tried pretty hard to get Honda to build the engine for the F1 too, but Honda declined. That is why they had to go to BMW.

With them owning the rights to the Nissan block, there is no reason for them to lie about whats left of the original design. Many companies run each others stuff out in the open so why would they have to conceal that they are still running Jap-tech. Im sure they started with the VRH and as they developed their own engine it just became less and less. Once youre in hypercar mode there are so many technology "tweaks" that happen that Im sure once they went into production nothing was left of the original design.
