So I am a college freshman and I decided i would like to take on a car project. Nothing too major, the car i choose will be in running/driving condition but i want a little "fixer upper." I've been stuck on buying a Datsun truck that is smog exempt, being that i live in california, and just fixing/repairing it myself, or with the help of others, little by little. I'm a CL addict for cars in my area but i'm waiting to find that perfect deal! Ill keep everyone posted with the car(s) i buy as projects over the years. That shit is a pain in Cal lol Stations are a bit harder to find parts for as well, despite being a really sick car AND not smog exempt which is a bit of a downer in CA. No smog, if stock L16 engine is very reliable, parts are not that hard to find, cheap on gas, can do whatever down the way. If the miles are getting to you just take a compression checker gauge. Easy to see condition of engine. No matter what you will have a driver with the 620. Other choice has an extra engine...WHY? Make seller pays for smog check as it is his responsibility. So the seller is asking 3000 for the truck. i honestly dont see it being worth that much because it still needs some work even though the engine was rebuilt. He didn't give much info about it other thant it's registered and clean title. The 620s that are 3k + asking price have engine swaps and are in similar or better condition. Yea hes tripping the motor was swapped and rebuilt in 2004 it looked like crap already. The floor had too much surface rust under the matt. Tranny was leaking. Weather stripping was bad basic older truck problems that need fixing. I offered 1400 which is still t9o much lol and him and his "mechanic" just walked away and drove off Quote Link to comment

From what he told me he payed over 3k for the 3 datsun trucks he has and he said the other 2 are in worse condition. The guy with the starion is going to smog this weekend and let me know how it goes. I still would like a datsun truck but if the starion passes with flying colors ill go with that then just remain on the hunt for a 620 or older :-) Quote Link to comment

A week later the turbo let go. He sold it right after that. That was back in 92? I think they have had plenty of time to be driven hard since new. Better to be safe. My .02 Quote Link to comment

Cuz there's ways around a smog.He said he wouldn't mind testing the compression when I get there. I'm taking my gauge just in case. I just have to look up what each cylinder should read. Looks like it.. yea. i asked him if he was on the forum but he said no, he's just a fan of datsuns. pretty cool though. B) One thing i found weird is that he told me this had always been his dream car but financially he can't afford it, yet in the older add it says he wants to trade for an 80's car or maybe a miata and they are also saving up for a new car? :confused: Not exact words but same concept. :geek: really love the car, hopefully it's not a scam or anything.
