Well the 810/Maxima designation was In my opinon, just kind of a dumb name useage. I understand why they did it, because they didnt offer either "810" in any other country with the I-6 engine, thus for America they lengthen them slightly and dub them 810. But the "original 810" isnt sold anywhere else as an 810. But it is an actual 810 chassis, so the "original 810" is the true official 810.

Now the 810/Maxima. This is misleading.

The original 810 with the 810 chassis WAS sold somewhere in the absolute top trim designation as a MAXIMA. So when people say 810/Maxima, they are never refering to that ultra rare model, what they ARE refering to is what is technically a 910.

When the 910 first came out it was badged as an "810", and a "Maxima" in North America. Two separate trim designations, one minimal, one fully loaded. Later in the years, actually 82' I think, the "810" was dropped from the badging entirely. But it still remained on booklets, owners, and service manuals.

However, that car was actually a 910, not an 810. It was definitely a Maxima as well regardless of year and what it says on the back. To me a "Maxima" means the I-6 engine. To add the I-6 L series engine to both chassis ("original 810" and 910) they had to lengthen them by 3.9 inches. Thus making them different from the other 810 or 910, and unique to America alone.

If you read the service manual for a 81-84 Maxima, it says "910 series" on the inside, same with the owners manual.

If you order parts, they are all 910 parts, If you look at the serial numbers on the car, Not the VIN, the Serials, they all say HL910

So in essence, in the US, it is an "810/Maxima" but it is a 910. Unlike some other things that Nissan has decided to change for the American market (which werent so great), The Maxima line was actually pretty badass. We got something nobody else got, an I-6 910!!

Take a look at Shawk910's 910, He converted it to a Maxima. its sweet!. I will admit I do like the look of the headlights on the short nose 910s though.

Wait - where are all your oics ... don't you have one of these said cars?

I've waited allllll year for this.  Someday I'll find that elusive 910.

.

So is this a North American L24 motor car known here as an 810 or Maxima or is it an import known here and abroad as a 910s? 'Cause I'm seeing a Maxima. I have a 710 but I don't say it's a Violet.

Well I didnt say it was a Bluebird. Did I?

But if you read the car, it says 910 on it. Nowhere on the vehicle will you find it labeled as an 810.

If you want to be technical the car is a 910, it was never truly an 810. Ever. Otherwise they would be posted in the "810!" thread.

If you are ordering parts for this car, You better not be ordering parts for an 810!!!. LOL.

Here's my old 910 from way back.

Was an automatic but I changed it to manual, added 300zx wheels with 215/50s, and slapped L28et manifolds and turbo onto it using stock N/A injectors and engine management but I did have to replace the air flow meter and ecu because they were flakey later on and it seems 1982 280zx n/a ecu and air flow meter are pin compatible.

No spacers were required to fit the z31 4 lug wheels though the stock 215/60s did rub at full suspension compression since the assembly was larger diameter than stock for that car.

215/50s solved that but I could not find 215/55s-15s which would have been stock diameter.

Oh yeah.....added a R200 differential and simply cut off the exhaust after the crossmember........sounded exactly like the M30 with l28et sounds now.

Replacing the R180 with R200 only required I get the rear diff mount from a S12, 200sx turbo that came with a R200 and used stock 280zx cv type axle shafts.

It all bolted in and no modifying rest of the car at all.

Drove this one 45,000 tire burning miles.

Sadly.....sold it off a 3 years ago......when I finished my M30 with L28et.

Wish I hadn't sold it but I have 2 m39s, a full size gm station wagon and a Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 twin turbo so space is tight.

The 280zx in turbo form pretty much guarantees you get the c/v axles but any 82 or 83 non-turbo 280zx with a r200 could very well have the cv type axles as well.

Now the maxima in question was a 1984 which had c/v type axles with a R180 so it's flanges on the axle fit the 280zx axles fine.........not sure about the universal joint flanges since I haven't seen them.

I didn't even remove the pan or engine when I installed the turbo drain.

I might have put a jack under the pan, removed the engine mount on driver's side, and used a super short drill bit to start a hole I eventually hogged out to 3/4 or so with a unibit.

I could see right to the  bottom of the pan so I used a couple of cans of brake cleaner to spray the metal from the drilling down and out the oil drain plug hole.

check my M30 thread for how I made a flange which I bolted to the side of the pan with self tapping stainless pan head screws and a bunch of ultra copper RTV.
