slodat
Why not run the turbo? Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
you should do the 2.2 kit that will help get a little more power out of it. Why get a different head? I thought they are the same as far as s13's go? I know the fwd sr's have smaller bottom end bearings but I don't know about the rwd non turbos. Quote Link to comment
clean71
the sr20det heads ,i thought had beefier valves and springs?im a N/A guy not much into turbo motors. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
did you consider a KA24DE? Quote Link to comment
kiznook
yeah, ka would cost alot less and parts are readily available. plus you throw some singe cam pistons in and get a decent CR Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
what do you guys think of a KA24de with Mikuni carbs? i have been thinking about the sr and its just way to expensive. or a Z engine of some kind? let me know your thoughts. would like to remain a 4cyl Quote Link to comment
slodat
Out of curiousity, why would you run carbs instead of the stock EFI? Quote Link to comment
Bleach
Out of curiousity, why would you run carbs instead of the stock EFI? less torque, maybe slightly more top end power if you're good a tuning, far less gas milage, and it sounds a lot more tough. It has that deep throat sound.... did I just say... oh nevermind  Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
im not going to drive it daily. it will be one of my "fun cars" i would like to build up a high compression engine to piss off my neighbors. would like about 150-200hp. come on guys where should i go with this? oh and i just put in a msd coil and the engine is cutting out and missing, the tach i installed is also jumping around. im going to put the stock coil back in and see what happens. slodat
i guess i don't understand how a "fun car" or a high compression engine negate the use of fuel injection. The advantages to EFI are countless. I'm not aware of a single advantage of carbs over EFI. If you like the look of carbs, you can do ITB's. Just my opinion. Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
im not saying i need to do a ka with carbs. i think i would have to cut the xmember to put the ka in anyway. right? i would like to stay with an L or Z type. i had my mind set on this sr. great deal on the clip. but i really dont have the space to have the car on that much downtime. i want the car to handle great and have good inline acceleration as well. believe me i know how much fuel injection is better. im just throwing out options. give me your thoughts. :) Quote Link to comment
slodat
Gotcha. Programmable engine management is the way to go, IMHO. With that said, I'm very close to firing my EFI L series. If you want power out of an L series, add a turbo! Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
yeah but you cant get 150-200hp out or a 2liter? or 2.2? 2.4? Quote Link to comment
BEEBANI
you can easily get up to 500 rwhp out of a 2.4, all the 240 guys are doing it. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
I believe he is talking about NA engines only. L-series 2.0 or 2.2L is almost impossible to get that much power out of. Even 150hp I'm not sure on the SR20, but the KA24DE is almost there from the factory. Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
now where would i be at for 2 grand? Quote Link to comment

What do carbs have that EFI doesn't...carbs have soul baby... Quote Link to comment
ramseys21
yeah i know the money is kinda tight but im trying to do 2 cars at once. so just let me know what you guys think i should do. i can maybe squeeze some more into the budget. Quote Link to comment
phatdave
Carbs do have a certain esthetic value...soul like Duke said. They look BITCHIN hanging there and they are one LESS electric piece of shit to deal with. I watch my wife always fighting with injectors on her American made car. They seem to always plug up and at 40 or 50 bucks a whack? FUG DAT! Quote Link to comment
Bleach
American made is your problem, not the fuel injection system. My Nissan injectors went for 150,000 miles and that's 1982 technology. Quote Link to comment
hang_510
...soul like Duke said. They look BITCHIN hanging there and they are one LESS electric piece of shit to deal with. that was my main consideration. next time though... :D Quote Link to comment

I have high hopes for this motor. Everything I read about them says they have poor potential but the more I work on it the more it fits what I need, high torque at lower RPM. Quote Link to comment
69FJWagon
My buddy Troy Ermish is building a KAde for a friend named Bill; 10.5:1cr with cams, and a boat load of head work done by Rebello. Rebello said combination should be good for 270hp easy. And like it was said earlier parts are readily avaliable, and it's going to be fuel injected. The ECU is going to be programed by Jim Wolf.
