vern_k
Sucks about the block. Your cats are awesome though. I also have a ginger tabby and a black cat. Also just a big fan of this build. yea, but I found a pathfinder engine cheep that has a rattle, the guy pulled it from ebay after I asked about it and he found out it wasn't a good engine but decided to sell it to me once I told him that I would be rebuilding it anyway. Which will give me a chance to play with the variable intake and don't have to $200 for the pathfinder cooling mod, which I need to do since the bypass hose and temp sensor would hit the fire wall really bad, just one of those well I guess I will have to throw some money at this and sets me back on getting other parts...... yea the shop cats are nice they keep mice and spiders in check, they are not mine, they came with a RV that Kevin (owner of the shop) picked up, he deals in big RVs mainly, but yea he saw the momma take off when he picked up the RV then down the road he heard noises and looked under the sink and there they were, he is more of a dog guy, and has 5 but he fell in love with them so now they stay in the shop. I'm a cat person so I don't mind them being around I even get them some cat nip from time to time... Quote Link to comment
ArchetypeDatsun
Awesome built thread went threw the whole thing today sucks the S110 could be saved but at least you still got a 200sx I'm working doing things to my 77 200sx soon I was thinking of stuffing a VG in it. Jester
I have often pondered the idea of an AWD Datsun. I will be watching. And not for the f#@king cats. Sorry, I hate em all! 1 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
New engine is at the shop as of Sat, I got the intake pulled off, going to have to work on a oval to round port adapter since I want to use the pathfinder intake and since the fuel rail is a return style it would solve that issue, and being a variable could get some nice low end along with decent high end, then also have the swirl valves to stabilize idle.... vern_k
Well my month of nothing but work has come to a end, so should be getting back up to the shop a bit more again. Kevin did get some more racks, so now I have my own for my parts and they are not just in a pile on the floor which is nice...... Can't wait till the parts start going from the shelf to on the car for the last time last add on, just need to weld some mounting plates in and hit the spare tire well with a hammer a couple times and then the foaming and parts painting starts then get to start putting it all back together Quote Link to comment
vern_k
hehehehehe well had to dig this out of my parts stash that I have been waiting to get to looks like it will have to go into the spare tire well, or maybe in the engine bay haven't completely decided that yet. she will have some scars from surgery 1 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
well can you find a better place to put it???? because daily have to finish up the mounting plate, going to make it so that the two bolts that are in will have slots to slid in so that if I ever have to work on it, it will come out easy Quote Link to comment
Coda
This is my new favorite build thread. Three of my favorite things in one place...Datsuns, AWD, and Cats. Good times! Digging your work as well. 1 Quote Link to comment

vern_k
spare/pump mount all done, the spare hold down bolts are not welded, i'm not sure how high I will have to make it to clear hoses and wiring for pump but think there will be room for a nice tool pack on top of the mount under the tire. All the holes drilled for foam filling well if you don't mind if the pump is going to be loud mount it here.... always be mindful when grinding and such judgment from the tool box well it wasn't warm enough to get to foaming this weekend I hope it is next weekend so I can get the back end painted and put together 3 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
setting up for some quick mixing and pouring. yep I drilled holes so the foam could get this far so it will come out any place it can I don't think I could have blocked that one if I tried what you going to do while you wait for this to dry, maybe pet me? vern_k
hitch all bolted up looks like the inspector has been by since it was apart makes things a lot easier for sure cleaning some paint out starting to get it together time for a snack all together got this ready to start working on final mounting and such next week hey can you move this so we can do box stuff looks like I will only have to put about a 1/2 spacer in to make room for hoses and wiring 3 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
didn't get a whole lot this weekend since I ended up working, on the bright side I will have more money for parts.... did start to get motor mounts finalized tacked up, have some more bracing to put on the bottom side and box in the tops and such 1 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
well got to get some work done on her this weekend some mock up to see how to long the S12 control arms are hahahaha you have to drop the engine out again how many more times will I have to do that before I'm done.... This many the type of grind that will make you question your life choices now that thats out of the way motor mounts are done, hope to get rack mounts started next weekend, and yes thats about how far back I will have to put it, yes it will clear the engine there 1 Quote Link to comment
vern_k
well not a whole bunch done this weekend but a couple small things taken care of bumper back on worked out where I need to cut for the shifter, just need to do a tiny bit of trimming on the back side..... time to mix and match parts to see what is going to work the best looks like I will be going with the S12 inner tie rods and more then likely have to do custom outers to keep from having odd angles 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Why custom outers? I'm actually pretty good at finding parts for things like this. If you want to tell me the specs you need, I would be happy to do some digging for you. I need optimal length, thread pitch at rack, and what knuckles they need to fit (was it mid 90s altima?) Remember, you can easily widen a rack with threaded spacers between the rack and tie rod. Quote Link to comment

Remember, you can easily widen a rack with threaded spacers between the rack and tie rod. the issue is that the knuckle arm sits high, like even with the bottom of the frame rail and the rack will have to sit lower so I will start with angles on the tie rod ends like I'm super slammed alone with the arms being long which is nice for combating torque steer but not so nice when the rack isn't mounted to the fire wall....... So I more then likely will have to make my own I have found a place that has metric weld in bungs for rods and such so think I will be going that way. I just put in my order for control arms, once I have those I will be able to get everything put together and see how many of the issues I can get rid of by where I mount the rack then go from there. The knuckles are from a 2nd gen maxima but yea if you can think of any rods that look like ''''''''''''\_____ I might check them out, but I think I will end up having to do custom ones..... thank you for the help Quote Link to comment

erichwaslike
I really hope you have some smarts when it comes to steering design and know how to set it up to eliminate bump steer and not get funky Ackerman angles Quote Link to comment
vern_k
I really hope you have some smarts when it comes to steering design and know how to set it up to eliminate bump steer and not get funky Ackerman angles working on it, more then likely will have to make custom outer tie rods, having T3 make me some custom control arms once I get those I will move on to getting the rack mounted, but have a good idea where it will need to go just need to find a good work around for the tie rod angles since the arm sits so high what type of rack is that? which one???? the pix will all 4 going left to right U11 Maxima, manual S12 well at least what it said when I bought it, the factory S12, the fukushima green is for like a old S30 chassis it is for going in front of the sub frame or LHD bought it just incase I needed to go in front of the sub frame but since I don't have to I might strip the maxima rack and see if I can make some bushings to put the gears in and make a manual rack for my Maxima Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
Could you flip the outer tie rod upside down? VW guys do it a lot. You drill out the hole and press in a tapered bush in the proper orientation. I don't know the taper that the beetles use, but it may be worth checking out. Quote Link to comment
vern_k
yea was thinking about doing that, but that still isn't going to be enough, T3 makes some decent looking tie rod ends that I might get then use bent bars and that should about do it and since toe would be adjusted on the inner the bent bars shouldn't cause any issues then as long as I can get the rack far enough back it should be a decent set up, if not I will have to find some offset ends. Right now dealing with getting proper lower ball joints for the control arms, I have send one in so the can see if they have one that will match up, might end up have to ream out the knuckle, trying to keep it common parts so that if I have to replace something I can get parts easy. vern_k
well got the heater hoses rerouted, it should not leak but if by chance I mess something up and it does I think I will bypass it till I feel like pulling the dash out again hmmmm to jump off the side or slide down the windshield well the slide is fun, is this a new spot to sits if you lick it first it leaves better prints 2 Quote Link to comment
