Tristin
Lol! Hasn't been started or ran in 17 years. Clutch pedal and brake pedal go to the floor. A little buff, fuel, engine, cooling, brake, clutch and electrical systems full rebuild, plus possible swap and it's good to go! Shooting for Labor Day 2014! But exterior and interior are actually in pretty good shape, so the project is blessed by the Dat-Gods... Haha yeah, Im sure it needs more than a little buff to get it driving and stopping. I meant to wake it up from its 20 year barn state. Quote Link to comment
Pedro
I spent a long weekend on Oahu at a CrossFit competition. Next step is to clear out some space in my shed and fabricate a proper workbench. Been thinking a lot whether to spend time and money rebuilding the E1 1198 cc engine. Or trying to swap an L-series... R16 or even an A series are an easier option that L series. Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
I can get an L20b with 4spd and weber for $100 locally. I would have to ship anything else 3000 miles. Also tempted by the aftermarket support of the L-series. Still might rebuild E1, but parts are rare... Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
This is the L20b in question w58 smog head. Would need full ma$hine shop and rebuild treatment obviously. Quote Link to comment

tr8er
I better have my goon on the road before you. Or I'm hurting someone. That car deserves a serious rust-proofing Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
With my two jobs, CrossFit training and kids, You should have a pretty good head start... I'll be lucky to work on her a full Sunday per week. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
R16 or even an A series are an easier option that L series. I suggest a little data mining in the 410/411 section. I seem to recall some discussion in that section about hood clearance [and probably radiator clearance] in the miniature 410 / 411 engine compartment. Looks like you have a real gem there, hope the salt air is kept at bay with "too much" washing and waxing. Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
Short cut reference to L series engine clearance problems, see http://community.ratsun.net/topic/55830-datsun-411-goon/page-2?do=findComment&comment=971821 entry 25. Theres is also a problem with the wiper motor clearance obvious in the photo. Good luck! The world needs more running 410 and 411 Datsuns! Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
Thought of some more sticker drafts on the drive home from work. Would anyone be interested? Quote Link to comment

Swedishcadillac
My favorite is the "DATSUN ADDICT". Hey, I'm not in denial... And, for the record, I'm prolly going to try to rebuild the E1. The L would be fun, but has a lot of challenges. 1 Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Sincerely, good luck! Try fork lift dealers for E engine parts. If zero, look into J13 or J15 engines. Datsuns, whether grey market or franchised dealer networks have been in Hawaii for a long time. Check with local sites, and again good luck, we need more running Datsuns! I bought my 411 from the second franchised dealer in North America, but Hawaii and a Grey Market dealer on the East Coast were earlier. There just might be early parts stashes in some warehouse in Pearl City just waiting for you! Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
good to see this goon popped back up!!!!! cant wait to see what all you do with it Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
My 11-year-old son and I worked on organizing the shop. And started the dismantling process, the only word to describe the tiny hood is "cute". Prepping for a thorough pressure wash before she goes on jack stands. Quote Link to comment

Swedishcadillac
Pulled the seats and carpet. I was surprised by a remarkably clean floorboard area. Pulled the fiber carpet pad, This picture shows one half given the simple green-scrub brush treatment. Pulled the fuel tank sender, no signs of any corrosion… Going to drain and flush tank anyway before I try to start her. Pressure washed engine, underbody, front and rear suspension. Ordered coil, plugs, wires, water pump, hoses etc. The engine turns freely but has still not been started since 1997. Quote Link to comment
