You can get a locksmith to cut a new key for you if you have the key code (assuming the vehicle has not been re-keyed).  Sometimes there is a sticker in the glove box with the key code written on it.  I also believe the passenger side key cylinder in the door can be removed to find the key code stamped on the cylinder for most Datsuns.

If that doesn't work you may have to call a locksmith to come to your vehicle and decide the best course of action.

what I would do 1st is look inside the front and rear bumpers to see if the PO stashed a spare key. Most of the time the spare key will be inside a magnetic box w/ a slider door. Use a flashlight because it's dark inside the park bench bumpers.

if you didn't see one then you need to pull the ignition switch or door lock cylinder. Take this with you when you go to the locksmith.. Hopefully they are a match and have not been replaced.

Their should be #'s stamped on the side. The locksmith will take that # code and see if he's got a diagram in his/her file to cut the key. If not, they usually have to look on a web site to get the diagram.

So far so good, you think. Nope.

Now you better hope they have the right key. Not all Datsun keys are the same. Some are 1 sided cut, some are double side cut but what really makes the different's is the side of the key. Some have wide groves and some thin groves or a mix of both.

Hope this has shine some light on the subject for you.

I had  lost my key for my 2006 300c and from what I was reading the dealership could make me a new one. I was just wondering how they could make a new one if I lost the original? How can the cut the key for the ignition? Or what would they use? I am assuming this is going to cost more than the standard $140 for the key and $50 for coding. Then my wife inform me about Locksmith coconut creek and they perform wonderful work and get me a new key. They really are commendable.

We, the community, are going to need more than "USA" and "Coconut Creek" for this post to be useful.
